Rookie Mistake

Well I made it to the gym last night, and just as I expected I’ve lost a significant amount of endurance.  Also, imagine my disappointment when I went to turn my iPod on and it was completely dead.  Luckily, the LA Fitness down here is brand new and has those fancy treadmills that you can hook your iPod up to, and I was still able to listen to some music.  I managed to pull out a 3 mile run at about 9:30 pace and then 20 minutes on the elliptical for a nice 50 minute cardio session.  I’m somewhat annoyed at myself for letting all the work I did for my half slip away, but at least I have three months to get it back.

After the gym I made the rookie mistake of going grocery shopping, after not eating since lunch and starving for dinner.  Let’s just say my bill was a little higher than normal, and I have no idea what some of my random purchases were about.  Also, I looked ridiculous in my dress coat, running shorts and tank top.  No wonder I got some strange looks.

Yes, I am in the Macaroni and Cheese aisle.  What I told you I was hungry and made some random purchases, like bunny shaped macaroni.  After an hour of meandering up and down aisles, I finally made it out of the grocery store and got home only to have every single bag rip as I was taking them out of my car.  Let’s just say there was some cursing, and the jumbo pack of toilet paper may have gotten dropped kicked up to the front porch.

I finally settled down with some dinner and wine just in time for The Craigslist Killer to start on Lifetime.  Don’t judge me, I’d been looking forward to it for a while.  Honestly, it was a little disappointing.  Although I’ll probably have even more trust issues with men now, because it was still pretty creepy.  Next one I’m looking forward to is about Amanda Knox and the murder in Italy.  Yes I’m a geek, and I don’t care.

The plan is to head to the gym again after work today, so hopefully I make it there.  As long as traffic is relatively light I think I’ll be able to convince myself, although it is Tuesday so anything could happen.  Catch ya later!

Brrrrrrrr!

So, it currently feels like 6 degrees outside and I have salt all over the  bottom of my  black pants.  You know why?  The lovely sheet of snow that apparently fell sometime during the night, when I thought the roof was going to blow off my house.  The wind last night was seriously rattling everything, and because I have to sleep with my windows at least cracked or I melt, it came whistling in all night long.  Lovely, nothing sends drivers in the south into a panic like the first snow to stick to the roads.  One of the school districts here was even on a two-hour delay!  It was funny to see the difference in amounts of snow just 20 minutes north.  At home there was none on the ground, but as I got closer and closer to work, there was more and two of the lanes on the highway were still covered.

 

Just enough to annoy me

 

I hit up the gym this morning, and did 35 minutes on the elliptical followed by some weights (chest and back), then it was to Starbucks for a Gingerbread Latte, and the gas station so I wouldn’t have a repeat of last Wednesday, tomorrow.

My workout last night was pretty good also.  I did 4 miles on the treadmill in 36:40, so about a 9:10 pace, and then lifted biceps and triceps.  Yup that’s right, I’m officially trying to re-incorporate weight training into my workout routine.  I used to all the time in college, and somehow I’ve become a cardio queen since then.  I’m hoping weights will help with my running and trying to lower my pace.

Dinner was leftovers from Sunday night, I added the link to the recipe in yesterday’s post, but you can also find it on my “Wanna Eat What I Eat” page ;).  The only thing not included in the original recipe, is the addition of a Lemon Poppy Seed Salad dressing.  So far I’ve used Trader Joes brand and Cape Cod Sweet and Sour Poppyseed, both work wonderfully.

Um, so 10 days until Christmas Eve?  When did that happen, I seriously can’t believe it’s next week already!  Lucky me, I’m heading back home on the 23rd, am off the 24th-28th, have two days of work and then am off again for New Years Eve.  Can’t beat that :).  Happy Tuesday!

Roommate Dinner

Well roommate dinner didn’t go exactly as planned.  For one there was no fire.

The chimney sweep never showed up, but that was probably for the best since it was about 60 degrees last night and a fire would have been unnecessary.  Second, there was a dinner crasher who went from person to person begging for food!

I guess technically she is a roommate also, but she was not invited for dinner and she was not happy about it.  Girlfriend definitely wanted her share of peppers, onions, and sausage.

There was wine, roommates, and Glee though, and those were the three most important ingredients.  Thank you Adrienne for cooking us a delightful and delicious meal!  I promise to make you some cookies soon ;).  In regards to last nights episode of Glee, meh.  The fact that it went like 20 minutes before the first song annoyed me, and then song choice wasn’t really that great.  My favorite one was the last performance, I guess the thinking “save the best for last” still holds true.

The weather here is out of control this morning!  Right now there is a Tornado Watch, Flash Flood Watch, and a Coastal Flood Advisory.  When I woke up and heard the wind and rain pounding on my window, I was so tempted to ignore my alarm and skip the gym.  Then I thought it would probably be a bad idea to start skipping on the second day, so I dragged myself out of bed and out the door.

I’m not sure if it is because of the unseasonably warm temperatures (it’s currently 63) for the past two days, or what, but the gym has been unbearably humid and warm.  I sweat a lot to begin with, but within seconds of my cardio starting, I am drenched.  Oh well I guess sweating out the toxins is good for me.  Anyway, todays workout was pretty similar to yesterday.

  • 18 minutes on the treadmill
  • 16 minutes on the elliptical
  • stretching and ab work

If I hadn’t accidentally driven into DC like a dummy this morning because I wasn’t paying attention, I definitely would have been able to squeeze a little more in.  Either way, I like having the workout over with by 8:15 and knowing I can just head home at night to relax or have fun :).  Also, for everyone who asked yesterday, I work in Gaithersburg, MD and this is what my commute looks like.

It’s about 29 miles door to door, and luckily I avoid most major traffic points, although I do feel sorry for the people I see heading the opposite direction every morning because they are constantly in traffic.

Anywho, first day of December, only 24 more shopping days until Christmas!  Happy Wednesday!
