A Random Tuesday Update

Over the weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate the upcoming April wedding of one of my friends. Well, technically the bride and groom are both friends of mine but on Saturday we just celebrated the bride. The day started with a lovely bridal shower at the Fairfax Country Club and wrapped up with her bachelorette party in DC.

We rented a limo to take us to Carmine’s for one of the most delicious, and gigantic, Italian feasts ever and then out on the town for some drinks before heading home for a good old-fashioned sleepover.

It was so much fun that even Pumpkin was exhausted on Sunday, and she wasn’t even invited. I guess she could just feel how tired I was and was experiencing sympathy sleepiness.

It was a fun day, but as with all things fun it takes me longer to recover and get back into the swing of things the older I get. So I’m still struggling to get my life back together on this Tuesday morning. I’m also pretty much out of food and have $40 to my name until Thursday at midnight, so meals are about to get realllll interesting. Dear bonus season, are you there? It’s me, Kelly. This unfortunate financial circumstance is all my damn eyeballs fault, and why I drag a year supply of contacts out for two years. $417 for contacts and new lenses for my glasses?!?!?! Excuse you, but who do you think you are. Woof.

Since I’m no longer relying on nutrients from wine and other alcoholic beverages alone, and consuming actual food again I’ve had to actually start working out again. Whereas before I was just kind of pretending to do things in the gym, now I’m actually doing things, including getting my running mileage up. I spend a lot of time with a bright purple facing, longing for the days when a 6 mile run seemed easy.

I also do weights at least once a week, and a terrible Ab burner I saw on The Fitnessista along with a push-up pyramid (10,9,8,7… etc down to 1) every week. Holler for being able to do all 55 push-ups on my toes. This may have more to do with the desire to not have my arms look flabby and gross when I’m b-maiding it up later this year than the actual desire to be strong.

So yeah, that’s what’s happening in my life these days. OH! Can any of y’all recommend a camera that would be good for Ireland. So good for scenery, and gratuitous posts of my sister and I drinking? Low lighting, bright lighting, not super fancy (aka a point and shoot) and not terribly expensive (see reference to having no money). Gracias friends! As Quentin Tarantino said on Sunday night, peace out.

This Spring Just May Kill Me

So I mentioned it briefly a few weeks ago, but in a mere 49 days my sister and I are embarking on the trip of a lifetime to Ireland.  The two of us began tossing around the idea of a “sister trip” back in the fall, throwing out ideas like California, Chicago, etc. Then in a moment of pure brilliance on my part, I may have also been drunk, I texted her “WE SHOULD GO TO IRELAND!” Thus, an idea was born, and no offense to Cali but it just didn’t seem as exciting. For awhile we’d go back and forth, “So are we doing this? We should probably start planning…” Neither of us have ever traveled abroad before, so we had no idea where to start, and every time I tried to look online at crap I got overwhelmed and gave up. Then my sister officially had her week of vacation at work scheduled, and it was time to make some moves. Over Christmas I popped into a travel agency, grabbed some brochures about Ireland, and two weeks later our trip was booked.

Trying to decide what to see and how to see the most of Ireland in the 7 days we had was completely ridiculous, so we ended up booking a group tour through CIE Tours. All of our hotels, transportation, and majority of meals were taken care of with one click of the mouse, and we just have to make sure we’re on our bus every day. There’s no risk in me accidentally driving us off a cliff after one too many Guinness’ , or getting lost in the middle of the country somewhere, and it made my mom a shit ton more comfortable with the idea of her two children gallivanting about Ireland. This is what our Itinerary looks like:

Oh, did I mention my mom’s wedding is the day after we get home? If things go smoothly, we land at 11:35 am on the 18th and the wedding is at 5:30 pm on the 19th. Wedding prep begins at 11 am on the 19th with us all getting our hair done. I foresee a lot of Red Bull/vodka and coffee in my future for that day. Poor planning on our part? Maybe, but my mom and her fiance booked their honeymoon before their wedding (priorities right?) and pretty much had one weekend they could get married on and we only had one week we could go on vacation. Wish me luck. Oh and yeah, you’re reading that correctly. I have ANOTHER wedding the following weekend just south of Charlottesville, VA.

That, is why this spring and definitely April, just may kill me. Hold me.

I feel the need to rub it in that today is my last day in the office until Tuesday :).  I’m working from home tomorrow, and then off on Friday and Monday for Megh’s wedding/MDW.  I’m quite excited, as you can probably imagine.  Other really exciting things?  You can watch HBO movies and shows online if you log in with your cable provider.  Yup.  Now showing?  Green Lantern.  Hello Ryan Reynolds, I ❤ you.

My Aunt is in town from New Jersey on a business trip this week, so last night I trekked into DC to meet her for dinner.  Her hotel is in Dupont, so to keep it simple we met at James Hoban’s Irish Pub right off the Circle.  I’d never been before, but was always curious, and I really enjoyed it.  We ordered the crab dip appetizer, which was delicioussss and then I had the Shepherd’s Pie as my main course.  It was a lovely dinner, but DC adventures on a weeknight always wear me out, so today I’m slightly more sleepy than usual.

So, funny story.  I’m pretty sure Darren got “B” listed for a friend of his wedding in August.  Ya know, he got put on the list of people who get invited if enough “A” listed ones RSVP “no”.  He was telling me he got an email talking about the bachelor party in July (the same weekend as my birthday trip to the beach that he told me months ago he would be waaaaaaaaay to busy to travel for, but that’s a story for another day) and I found it weird he hadn’t gotten at least a save the date for the wedding.  He of course, being a man, didn’t find it weird at all that he hadn’t gotten any notice about a wedding that’s happening in August.  After lots of my nagging yesterday he finally called one of the other guys on the bach party email list, and asked what the deal with the wedding is.  Apparently they sent save the dates out, but not to everyone, and invitations haven’t gone out yet.  Weird right?  I just thought it was funny that none of this had crossed his mind.

Now, the real question of the day.  I forgot my lunch at home, so should I eat lame cafeteria food or go across the street and get something delicious?
