Acting like a dummy

A few pieces of advice to offer after this weekend.

  1. Drinking half a bottle of vodka is not a good ides
  2. Doing cartwheels after previously mentioned amounts of vodka is an even worse idea
  3. Boys do not want to listen to Glee’s version of Bohemian Rhapsody on repeat
  4. Just because you drank half a bottle of vodka, you are not automatically a better dancer

I’ll elaborate more in a bit, but first let me back up to Friday.  I went out for another 3 mile run after work, and was feeling really nervous leading up to it.  For some reason I was convinced my knee was going to start hurting, and that it was going to be a bust.  It was gorgeous on Friday afternoon, the humidity was down, and it was only about 75 degrees.  My 3 miles went amazingly!  I don’t remember the exact stats, but I finished in 27 something at about a 9:18 pace, which was faster than Tuesday’s.  I do remember that I negative split again, and my last mile was 9:04.  Hooray for improvements!

After my run, my sister and I went out for a few drinks at an outside bar near us.  I had two vodka and club sodas and we split an appetizer of Calamari.  The bf hates Calamari so I never get to order it when with him, luckily my sis loves it.  After our drinks we decided to pick up a pizza and head home for dinner and a movie.

Two slices of “Old Fashioned” pizza.  It was soooo good, I usually just get pizza from across the street, but I may actually make the drive for this pizza from now on.  Our movie choice was Shutter Island, and I really, really liked it.  I had heard mixed things about it, and how it was confusing and the ending didn’t make sense, but my sister and I both loved it.  I definitely recommend it.

Saturday morning I was going to get up and run, but my sister bailed on me and I didn’t feel like going alone so I tackled Yoga Meltdown again.  Still loving it, and I was absolutely dripping with sweat by the end.  The rest of my Saturday was spent at my friend Alexis’s bridal shower.  They had tons of great food, a fruit tray and veggie platter, sandwiches trays from Wegmans, and like 10 trays of homemade Italian cookies that her fiancé’s Aunt’s made.  I stayed away from that table and only grabbed a small chocolate chip cookie.

I love when I wear heels and my short friends don’t.  I look like even more of a giant.  Alexis is the teeny tiny blond in the middle.  As far as showers go, it couldn’t have been better.  No silly games to waste time, tons of beer and wine, and Alexis is one speedy present opener.  After the shower, Ashley, Michelle and I went back to Ashley’s house which is when all the vodka began to be consumed.  But first we played with some puppies.

And honestly after that, the rest of the night is a vodka induced blur.  I know we put on music and danced around on the porch, the boys ordered the fight and watched it in the basement, Michelle did some drunk ballet, and I did some drunk gymnastics, until I slipped on the wet grass twisted my ankle and hyper-extended my knee.  I’m a genius I tell ya.  It was a fun night that I severely paid for yesterday.  I was not feeling my best when I woke up, and one of the dogs was drinking my water, luckily I’ve been through enough hangovers to know that some ginger ale and greasy food will settle my stomach pretty promptly.

After we had all mostly recovered, we went and saw Sex and the City 2, finally!  I enjoyed it, and I agree with pretty much everyone else that the first one was better.  The clothes and shoes are still amazing though, and SATC will always have a soft spot in my heart.  The only thing getting me to work this morning, since I am still exhausted from my ridiculous Saturday night activities, was thinking that I only have to work three and a half days this week.  I have a half day on Thursday and am heading up to NYC for the Yankees/Phillies game, and then I am off on Friday.  Thank god!

Well I hope everyone had a great weekend, and didn’t act as much like an idiot as I did!

Things I Learned in Therapy

Happy Friday!  Mine started off great because I got a free coffee at Starbucks!  My ex’s dad was in line in front of me and bought mine for me, nothing like a free drink to start off the day on the right foot.

Last night was PT, and I am very excited to tell you all that I am officially finished with it!  No more two-hour appointments twice a week,  and I can finally get back into a normal workout routine (which is good because one of my favorite pairs of jeans wouldn’t fit over my ass this morning).  They told me not to be shy, and to call if I even felt like I was starting to have problems again.  I assured them not to worry, that I will be a giant pain in the ass.  Now I am on my own, it’s definitely a little scary.  I’ll really have to make sure I keep up with my strengthening and stretching.  Three and a half months of physical therapy is more than enough for me, I do not want to end up back there.  At least I got a free t-shirt out of it, I do love free t-shirts.

I actually did learn some things during my weeks and weeks of PT.  I thought I’d share some tips.

If you have problems with your toes falling asleep, try tying your laces on the outside of your foot.  It keeps the knot from cutting off your circulation at the pulse point.

Strong hips and glutes = happy injury free knees!

Stretch, stretch, stretch, stretch.  Really this is the most important lesson I learned.  I really used to half ass the stretching after a run because I was typically sick of being in the gym at that point.

Aaaah, it hurts so good!  I’m going to work on making a video of the actual exercises that I did during my weeks of pt.  I’m hoping that it will be helpful for everyone else in preventing IT band injuries.  It will also help me not forget what the hell I’m supposed to do, haha.

Dinner last night was nothing new around here.  I’m still dealing with a broken oven, and since I don’t want to blow the house up anytime soon it had to be something either stove top, microwave, or toaster oven cookable.  I went with toaster oven.

Flat bread pizza, I know you’re all shocked.  Unfortunately there is only one piece of this delish flat bread left in my freezer, my sister and I may be battling it out in the near future.

Pizza sauce, leftover taco meat from last week, cheese, and turkey pepperoni.  The seasoning in the ground beef really did the job of adding flavor that I normally would be missing since I didn’t have any peppers or onion.  And then, I celebrated my completion of PT with a Pineapple Vodka and Sprite Zero.  Um any vodka lovers out there I recommend the Sky Infusions flavored vodka.  Raspberry and Pineapple are my favorite, the Grape reminds me of cough medicine.

I also watched a horrible Lifetime movie with Kristin Stewart circa 2004.  Don’t ask me why, I blame the vodka.  Alright, that’s all I got for today, someone tell me their fun weekend plans!

True or False

Yesterday was spent just like a snow day should be, lounging around watching TV and making food. I did get outside to shovel, so there was some sort of exercise. I always forget how much different it is to make a meal for a boy as opposed to just for me. For example, my lunch yesterday was leftover tofu lo mein, and his was a turkey sandwich and leftover chicken and broccoli casserole.

Boys and their never ending appetites. My sister made it home around 5 yesterday and immediately settled on the couch with her laptop, so this is what it looked like in my house yesterday afternoon.

The bf on his computer at the counter, mine is shut next to him, and my sister with hers open on the couch. Bunch of geeks we all are. The three of us are currently in the exact same configuration right now. Since yesterday was a Friday, and Lent is currently going on, dinner was supposed to be meatless. Since I forgot until after I ate bacon in my breakfast omlette, I decided to try and make it through the rest of the day. Dinner was Vodka Cream Pasta.

Penne with Vodka Cream Sauce

  • 1 tbsp EVOO in the pan
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 shallots, minced
  • 1 cup vokda (yessss!)
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes, 32 oz
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 16 ounces pasta
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 20 leaves fresh basil

Heat a large skillet over moderate heat. Add oil, butter, garlic, and shallots. Gently saute shallots for 3 to 5 minutes to develop their sweetness. Add vodka to the pan. Reduce vodka by half, this will take 2 or 3 minutes. Add chicken stock, tomatoes. Bring sauce to a bubble and reduce heat to simmer. Season with salt and pepper.

While sauce simmers, cook pasta in salted boiling water until cooked to al dente.

Stir cream into sauce. When sauce returns to a bubble, remove it from heat. Drain pasta. Toss hot pasta with sauce and basil leaves.

We served a Caesar Salad on the side.

And well, because it was Friday, and I was beginning to go stir crazy from being in the house all day, I had one of each of these with my dinner.

Pomegranate Martini

Red Wine

Haha my sister did not want to be in the background of my picture. Miss Amy over in Chi-town had the brilliant idea last weekend to go bowling, which of course put the idea in my head. Since the bf considers bowling a suburbian activity we don’t go in NYC, and with him and the sister home I figured it was a perfect opportunity. We had about an hour wait for a lane when we got there (Friday night is league night and only half the lanes are open) luckily this bowling alley also comes equipped with pool tables and a bar.

My first beer which I drank while playing a few games of pool. Landshark Lager is one of my favorite beers, usually I can only find it at Cheeseburger in Paradise, so I was very excited to see it here. Yum. Reminds me of summertime, and with the freshly added foot of snow I needed a reminder. We finally got to bowling around 9:30, and it was a blast.

My sister Colleen

Look at my fantastic form

Doesn't Alex look like he is about to go flying down the alley?

Sweet shoes that remind me of my High School uniform (I wore blue and white saddle shoes)

So, in high school, Friday night bowling was the thing to do which actually made me a pretty damn good bowler. I’m also very competitive, especially when I have the opportunity to beat the bf at something.

Game 1, winner!

Col needed a game to get warmed up. She got better. I tried to get Alex to take a picture with me and our bowling balls, but he was not in the mood, instead we ended up with this;

Doesn’t it look like I’m about to hit him over the head with my bowling ball? Haha, I swear I didn’t.

Game 2 I came in second.  Sad face.  I redeemed myself on the 3rd and last.

Game 3 winner, and bowling champion of the world!  Ok, not the world but I totally kicked Col and Alex’s ass.  We came home and attempted to play a drinking game to the movie The Invention of Lying, drink every time he says a lie, but some people (ahem Alex and Col) were lame and wanted to go to sleep.  Perhaps we will continue that today.

Ok, now for a little fun, ummm the winner gets a big shout out and sadly that’s all because no one sends me stuff to give away.

True or False

  1. I fell flat on my face on the bowling lane last night.
  2. I sang Hit Me With Your Best Shot on a Karaoke machine to the bowling alley
  3. I spilled an XL diet coke all over the place
  4. I accidentally ran into the baby bowling next to us

Have Fun!  Happy Saturday everyone!
