Pinterest Owns Me

This past weekend was spent accomplishing all the things I’d recently seen on Pinterest that caught my eye.  First up was a Valentine’s Day wreath to replace our Christmas themed one that was currently hanging on our front door.  The tutorial can be found here, and while this was incredibly time consuming it wasn’t too difficult.

I bought all my supplies at Joann’s fabrics, two styrofoam heart shaped wreaths, 3/4 yard of red glittery felt, about 24 sheets of white and pink felt, and a pack of 340 straight pins.  Tracing the 3 inch circles onto the felt and then cutting them out was the worst part of this craft, and luckily by the time I moved onto wreath number two I realized I could triple up the sheets of felt and cut three circles at a time.

Once the circles are cut out, you fold them in half, and then in half again, place the straight pin through the bottom and pin into the styrofoam.

By the time I moved onto wreath number two on Saturday afternoon, I had a system all worked out.  I cut out every circle of felt before I started pinning, and knew the best way to position each piece.

Seeing how much better the second one turned out, kind of makes me want to re-do the first one, but even I’m not that crazy.  Anyway it was a fun craft that kept me occupied during the winter weather this weekend brought us.  The pink and white heart would also make a cute decoration in a baby girl’s room.

I’m currently still being lazy and hanging out next to the fire taking it easy.  Hope you all are having a lovely weekend!

Spring Fever

So what does a girl with no date do on Valentine’s Day?  Well, if you’re me, you go to the grocery store and laugh at all the men in there buying flowers and cards.  Nothing like waiting until the last minute fellas.  It was really amusing, and I actually laughed out loud when I got off the elevator on the second floor and saw the crowd of dudes in the card section.  Then I meandered over to the wine and picked out two bottles :).

The gym didn’t happen because I realized yesterday afternoon, with my long run happening on Sunday instead of Saturday that my schedule is all off by one day, and yesterday was a rest day.  Fine by me, since I had to go grocery shopping anyway.  The rest of the night was spent on the couch with my Valentine’s (Dani and Adrienne) watching the Caps play, shocker I know.

So I think the spring temps yesterday actually caused some people to lose their minds, because on my drive in this morning I saw a couple enjoying their Z3, with the top down.  It was 33 degrees.  Let’s not get ahead of ourselves folks, it is still February after all.  Although with a forecast looking like this:

I can’t help but get excited either.  In fact plans for a BBQ and some back porch drinking may already be in the works for Friday.  I’m so glad I brought at least one pair of flip flops down with me when I moved!  Got to love random warm days in February.  All I could think about yesterday at work was that if I were still down at JMU in college, I totally would have bailed on classes to sit on the quad all day or drink in my backyard while playing beer die or something.  Sigh, the good old days.

So pretty much the only thing getting me through this week, is the though of a three day weekend and having Monday off.  I think I’ve been looking forward to this holiday since we came back after Christmas haha.  Well, being as it’s Tuesday, I got stuck in a shit ton of traffic on my way to work this morning and my gas light came on.  Typical.  Anyway, have a good one!

It’s a Love/Hate Thing

Happy Valentine’s Day lovers!  I have a hot date tonight with the gym and grocery store, I can’t wait!  Let’s see, when I last left you on Saturday afternoon I was trying to decide whether to do my long run or push it until Sunday.  Well, it never happened on Saturday.  Instead the roommates and I sat around drinking mimosas all day.  Much more enjoyable than running 6 miles moderately hung over if you ask me.

Saturday night the ladies headed out for the bachelorette party, and I was a complete geek and had a Skype date with Dar.  In my pajamas, with wet hair, I looked pretty.  In fact, the only time I wasn’t in pajamas on Saturday and Sunday was when I actually did manage to get my ass out the door and run.  I had a pretty great run too.  Although, yesterday’s long run was a perfect example of why I despise 5k races, and tend to like any run over 3 miles a lot more.  This was my train of thought during my 6 mile run

Mile 1: Ugh, I feel like crap.  I think my love handles just jiggled over the waste band of my spandex.  Gross. Maybe I’ll just call it quits at 4.  I hate running.

Mile 2: I wish I had some gum, my mouth is so dry.  These stupid pants keep falling down, I should stop and tie them tighter. If I stop I may not be able to make myself start again. I wonder how far I’ve gone.  My toes are numb.

Mile 3: Ooooh a water fountain, yes.  God damn it, why is it turned off!?  Hooray almost time to turn around and head home.  Oh look there’s someone with a Philly marathon 2010 shirt, I’m gonna go say hi!

Mile 4: Hey I think I’m going pretty fast.  Don’t look at your Garmin, you’re probably not.  At least my toes aren’t numb anymore and legs loosened up. My teeth are cold.

Mile 5: Only two more to go! That’s less than 20 minutes, you can totally do this and hey I still think I’m going pretty fast.  I am really, really thirsty.

Mile 6: Man I feel great, I am definitely hauling ass right now.  Yaaay omglolzrunningisawesome!! I love running outside.  F the treadmill.  Oh there’s the mile post I started at, let’s kick it up for the finish!

First three miles in 28:09, second three in 24:44.  Talk about a negative split huh, and can we just take note of mile 6 for a second.  I couldn’t even tell you the last time I ran a sub 8 minute mile.  I would have to assume it was in high school, but since I flat out refused to run anything longer than the 400 m race, I can’t be positive.  I have no idea where it came from, I’m thinking I really wanted to get home and chug some water.  Anyway, I felt amazing during the run, despite the fact that I sat around until almost 1 pm before I finally got my ass out the door.  It was a lovely 50 degrees, mostly overcast with a light breeze, a perfect running day.

I laid on my yoga mat in the middle of my living room for about 20 minutes “stretching”, showered, and put my pajamas back on.  Then last night I sat and watched the Grammy’s with about 300 of my closest friends.  Things I enjoyed, Biebs and Usher, Lady A, Mumford and Sons, and Eminem.  Things that annoyed me, having to Google the best new artist winner, Lady Gaga.  I won’t bore you with the rest of my thoughts, I was pretty vocal on Twitter.  Did you watch the Grammy’s?  What did you like/hate?
