Dark, Like My Soul

So after two hours in the salon last night, I’m officially back to my brunette roots.  My stubborn highlights required an extra round of dye to cover up, so I got to go through the shampooing process twice.  Fine by me, everyone knows that’s the best part anyway.  I liked the highlights and stuff, but they always faded super quickly, leaving me with hair that was 10 different colors.  Back to dark brown it is!

Threw some side bangs in there to mix it up a bit.  And no, I do not have two black eyes, I’m just tired and don’t wear any makeup to work.  Ok, and now I promise no more pictures of just my face for a while, that shit is annoying.  I’m well aware.

Yesterday may have been the slowest day in the history of the world.  I’m betting I say the same thing tomorrow about today.  I had absolutely zero work to do all day, so I sat here twiddling my thumbs trying to find things to look at on the internet.  Damn you for blocking HULU!  Finally around 2, I managed to drag myself across the street for a workout.

Spartacus workout!  Two full circuits, upping to 12 lb weight for the Goblet Squat, lunge and twist, and bent over dumbbell rows.  Still using 10 lbs for the other exercises.  I followed it up with some abs, because really I just wanted an excuse to lay down.  The best part about working out until 3:15, was it only left me with an hour of work to get through after.  Hooray!

Since the hair took a little longer than expected, I didn’t end up getting home until about 7:30 (stopped at the store) at which point I collapsed on the couch with a glass of wine and a frozen pizza, and Mad Men.  Ha, if you are a fan of my Facebook page you know I was trying to avoid the booze until tomorrow night.  Well, I am a failure, I should have known that would never happen.  Also, if I’m being completely honest, I had a Skinny Girl Margarita on Monday night :/.  Sigh, maybe I need an intervention.  Jk, I really don’t.

Obviously since I have a 6 pm flight tomorrow night, I have not packed yet, at all.  I’m trying to decide if I can pack for a 4 day trip and wedding in a carry on size suitcase.  I’m also trying to decide if the suitcase we have is carry on size.  I suppose I could measure it, but that would take all the fun out of it.  Also, what does one bring to a wedding weekend at a lakeside resort in Wisconsin?  No, seriously.

Ok, I’m off.  Don’t tell me if you don’t like my hair.  I’m feeling sensitive today.

All My Bags Are Packed, Almost

So last night I started packing.  I had my list, a glass of wine, a cupcake, and Twitter to occasionally complain to.  I was good to go.

Surprisingly, the only real dilemma I faced was whether to pack my boring, comfortable plain black pointy toe pumps, or cuter, uncomfortable peep toe nude pumps.  I went with the cuter heels.  I figured what the hell, I’ll probably only wear them at night, and won’t be walking around that much.  I have outfits planned out that I currently like, but will probably hate once it’s time to wear them.  I typically have that problem when I plan outfits.  Luckily we’re staying within walking distance of some of the best shopping there is :).  So yeah, the clothes and shoes are ready to go, which leaves me with two days still to get everything else together.  I think I can manage that.

I’m blaming my anticipation of Thursday for how slowly yesterday went by.  Monday felt like five days, and by the time 4:30 rolled around the last thing I wanted to do was go work out.  Knowing that a majority of my runs are going to get screwed up this week, I forced myself to go and managed to do a completely mediocre 3 miles on the treadmill.  Luckily that is all my training plan called for.  I stretched a lot after, because my IT Band is really acting up (a-hole), and did some abs before heading home.

Tonight is my hair appointment (yay!) and I’m hoping I’ll be able to get my eyebrows waxed also, because they are seriously out of control.  Alright, well I’m off to yet ANOTHER training class until 1 this afternoon.  They better provide me with a morning snack, otherwise we’re going to have issues and I’ll be super cranky.  I’ll post a picture of my hair tomorrow, unless I hate it, then I’ll keep it to myself.

Acting Like an Adult

Happy Friday friends, we made it through another work week!  Yesterday was relatively uneventful, except during a casual Facebook chat with my sister she dropped the bomb that our dog died.  Like two weeks ago.  She just forgot to call me.  Now granted our dog went to live with my dad when my parents divorced so I hadn’t seen her in a few years, but it was still sad news.  We got her when I was in 7th grade, so she was old and apparently had Cancer, but she was a good puppy and I was shocked when my sis casually inserted that news into our convo.  RIP Tara :(.

After work I rushed to the gym to get my run in because I had some plans last night (I’ll get to that in a minute).  The first thing I noticed, besides the heavy humid air, the sun shining in through the wall of windows into everyone’s eyes.  Whoever designed this gym was seriously a moron.  Here’s a list of things I would have done differently.

  1. Cardio equipment on the bottom floor, heat rises dumbasses
  2. If you’re going to have a wall of windows facing West, make sure there are blinds
  3. For the love of god, if the doors are fogging up due to the heat, crack one!
  4. I don’t have a 4th thing, but I didn’t want to end the list at 3

Anyway, my training plan called for 4 easy miles, but I didn’t have time for that so I did 3 at a somewhat uncomfortable pace. 1st mile at 9:22, 2nd at 9:05, and then third starting at 8:57 and working down to 7:55 pace.  After a few minutes of stretching I was out of there and heading home to shower and make myself presentable for the public.

In a rare display of generosity and philanthropy, my entire group of friends congregated at DC’s 9:30 Club last night for a fundraiser benefiting Doctors Without Borders, thrown by my friend Massoud.  Massoud spent the better part of last year traveling, photographing, and blogging about his adventures.  Check it out here if you have time, all his posts are amazing, and so last night we all got together to buy some photographs and bid on items in a silent auction.  All the proceeds from lat night went to DWB, and I’m hoping that Massoud surpassed his fundraising goal.  It was a really nice time, and I’m glad we could all show up to support our friend.  I also can’t wait to get the two prints I purchased because they are beautiful!  Here’s just one of the photos I bought, the other is a gorgeous red sunset, but I couldn’t find it online.

Alright, enjoy your Friday.  No idea what’s up for the weekend yet.  All my girlfriends down here have a bachelorette party to attend tomorrow night, so looks like I’ll be hanging out by myself.  It’s almost going to hit 50 this weekend, so I’m hoping to get my long run in outdoors for the first time since November.  Fingers crossed!
