The Weather is as Drunk as I Was

So I ended up bailing out of my interval run last Wednesday night when my hip started hurting 1.3 miles into it. I took Thursday – Monday completely off and hopped on a treadmill tonight to slowly ease into a run and see how I felt. The verdict? 3.12 miles in 30 minutes without any popping/grinding in my right hip whenever I landed on that foot, so we’ll call it a success for now. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow. I’ve decided that if I can’t do the runs I need to do this week that I’m probably going to have to pull out of Cherry Blossom on April 6, keep your fingers crossed for me that it doesn’t come to that.

I had a fabulous weekend that mainly revolved around the 3rd annual St. Paddy’s “Kegs” and Eggs Party that my roommates and I started throwing back in 2012. The party starts at breakfast time and goes until the last person passes out. It’s always a delightfully drunken time where people in their late 20s and 30s try to pretend they’re still in college, and we once again seriously lucked out with the weather, especially after this winter. 70 and sunny, FTW!

We had some college buddies come in from out-of-town, which is always fun, because who doesn’t still love a big sleepover? I woke up on Sunday at 5:45 am, hurting, because someone (ahem it was not me) could not remember how their night ended and wanted me to tell them. This person is lucky I kind of like them, or I might have murdered them, or thrown up on them (ironically enough this almost happened a few hours later anyway, oops). There was more sleep to be had eventually, thank the lord. LUCKILY (read that with all the sarcasm) it started snowing on Sunday night and when I woke up on Monday morning there was about 10 inches on the ground so I got another day in the house to recover.

If it snows one more time, I’m cashing in my frequent flier miles and heading to Mexico. Who’s coming with me?

 

 

More Running in the Snow

Whooooooo’s at work with me today? Anyone? If you’re not, I hate you. Actually, it’s kind of alright since I haven’t been to the office since last Wednesday… thanks snow. My roommate and I were suffering from serious cabin fever on Friday afternoon, and it ended up being a pretty nice day, so we took Madison for a walk to the dog park, and she had ALL THE FUN.

Madison found all of the puddles at the dog park, and decided to completely submerge herself in them. Multiple times, and then she would look at the other dogs like “HEY, why aren’t you guys doing this too?!” She’s such a weirdo.

The dog park is actually right in the middle of my usual running route, so I knew the bike path was clear for my long run Saturday. When I woke up though, it was snowing again. Grr. Not hard enough to actually stick, but enough that I procrastinated for a good two hours before finally getting out the door.

While the bike path was nice and clear, there was a lot of hurdling over snow drifts and shuffling on some icy sidewalks until I hit the trail. It ended up being a pretty nice run though, really quiet not a lot of other people out, until mile 4 when the snow turned into a snow/sleet mix. Motivation to haul ass and get home faster. I also really need to figure out how to not end EVERY RUN with the wind in my face and running uphill. Oh well, making me stronger I guess?

Or Valentine’s Day… whatever.

I found that one appropriate, as my car is currently still sitting on the street in front of my house surrounded by snow, and I really have no intention of doing anything about it.  I don’t mind V-day, it is what it is. Sure it’s corny, but if that’s your kinda thing then have at it. I will however mock any engagements that happen on this day, because c’mon show some originality. I’m not technically celebrating, because hi, single, although I did send someone a card that made me laugh like an idiot in the store when I read it.

Anyway, so I’m snowed in for the second day in a row, and if I don’t get out for a little bit I may actually lose my mind. Before the snow storm forced me inside, there were some pretty good workouts, so let’s talk about those.

2/10: 33 min elliptical and planks + abs
2/11: 3 miles @ 6.4 – 7.0 mph
2/12: 4 mile tempo, 1 mi @ 10 min/mi, 2 mi @ 9:05-8:30 min/min, 1 mi @ 9:22 min/mi
2/13: Shoveling (it counts, that shit was heavy)

I’m supposed to cross-train and lift some weights today, but well I don’t have access to the gym. I might walk to the dog park with the dog and call it a day. This weeks long run should be 6 miles, but apparently it’s going to snow again tonight so who knows what will happen with that. We shall see.
