A Few Things

Whoa… two posts in the same week, I KNOW. I don’t actually have anything meaningful or important to say (when do I ever), but I kind of felt like shooting the shit this morning. Also I wanted to say thank to everyone who weighed in on Monday’s post, you guys are kind of great at making a girl feel like she’s not actually going insane, even if I am just slightly.

Anyway, back after I had my heart ripped out, stomped on, put in a blender and buried in the ground, I started getting bi-weekly manicures. It made me feel pretty, and helped to cheer me up, and when I paint my own nails it lasts maybe two days before chipping or my nails breaking. Also, it’s not that expensive and my nails stay painted for two weeks without getting messed up. I had an appointment yesterday, and the salon had just gotten in the new OPI James Bond collect, and omg is it fun.

this is GoldenEye and Moonraker

Yup, there is something so fun about sparkly gold nail polish. I can’t wait to try all of the colors. Also, I figured this combo was good for Halloween? Just go with it. I also cooked last night, for like the first time since June? I made Shepherds Pie (sweet potatoes instead of regular) for myself, Dani, and her boyfriend, and it turned out just as fantastically as I remembered. I just wish it had been 50 degrees last night instead of 70. WTF October?

my hands still smell like onions and garlic

Umm yeah, so that’s really all I’ve got for you today. OH! I’ve been listening to Taylor Swifts new album (the deluxe available only at Target, obvi) and I’m obsessed. Specifically these two songs:

Happy Wednesday!

Irks a Nerve

Oh hello there, and happy Wednesday to you.  How is everyone this morning?  I myself am doing much better than yesterday because I’ve had a full cup of coffee, no headache, and well it’s not Tuesday.

So, have ya’ll seen those stickers that people put on their back windshields.  You know, the ones with all the family members?  Here’s an example that was in front of me on my way to work this morning.

Does anyone else find these as fugly and annoying as I do?  I really can’t explain why I hate them so much, but I do.  Oh, you have four kids? How nice for you.  I hope that youngest is a boy or I feel bad for the husband, four daughters?  No thanks.  In 5-10 years if I attempt to put something like this on my car, please point me in the direction of this post.

Thankfully I managed to avoid a migraine yesterday and kicked the headache by mid-afternoon.  I took a quick break from my monotonous work day and headed across the street for a late afternoon workout.  About an hour of full body weights that included:

  • leg press machine
  • calf raises (the assisted pull up and tricep dip machine is really good for standing on and doing these)
  • Split squat with rear leg on weight bench
  • Plie squat with 15 lb dumbbell
  • bicep curls
  • bent over bicep row
  • skull crushers
  • tricep chest press
  • shoulder press
  • hyperextensions with a 10lb plate
  • Abs

Phew, it was a good one, and that is typically what I do once a week when I say I’m doing a full body weights workout.  I sometimes alternate tricep kickbacks for skull crushers though.  Ideally I would do this two times a week, but I’m lazy.

After work I could not wait to get home and cook dinner.  I happened to have all the ingredients on hand for one of my favorite cooler weather meals, and despite the 85 degree temps yesterday, I still wanted it.  Shepherd’s Pie with mashed sweet potatoes on top instead of regular mashed.  So freaking good.

I sent that picture to Dar, and he said “That looks disgusting babe.”  Maybe it does, but it tasted fucking awesome.  I had two giant plates for dinner, and have leftovers for the rest of the week, ironically when it will actually be cooler out.  I really love the sweet potato/ground beef combo, please try this.

Ok, and now I need you guys to help me with something.  I’ve been really boring myself on the blog lately, which means I’m probably boring you all to death.  So, what do you want to see more of here?  I’m not training for anything right now, so detailed descriptions of long runs aren’t an option, and my life is pretty lame.  Anything ya’ll want me to post about? Please give me ideas.  I’m begging.

Alright, peace out.

Hair Help

Heeeey it’s the last day of February, awesome, and it’s going to be 73 degrees today.  Apparently tornado warnings are also accompanying the warm temperatures, so it’s looking like an interesting day.  Did you miss my weekend posts?  I mostly talked a lot about shopping, but they’re still fun to catch up on.

Last night I made 5 lbs of the best mashed potatoes ever and considered that my cardio and weight training for the day.  Seriously, have you ever stood over a hot stove mashing and stirring 5 lbs of potatoes?  That’s hard work!  I also made my favorite comfort food meal ever, Shepherds Pie, and fed it to the roommates.  They were grateful to have dinner prepared for them, and I was just happy to have something to do.  Then I watched the Oscars.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to go in to what I thought of so and so’s dress, and who won what award, I’m pretty sure there are tons of other bloggers out there today doing that.  Go read their recaps, I just don’t care enough.  What I will say, is that Twitter makes watching award shows so much more fun.  First the Grammy’s now the Oscars, it’s fun to see everyone’s different opinions as the event happens.  Plus you can play drinking games with people!

So my trip is officially next week now, and you can rest assured that I will be obsessively checking the forecast for the next 10 days.  I can only see up until Wednesday at the moment, but Milwaukee’s weather is a high of 30 and snow showers and Chicago’s is a high of 37 with snow showers.  I have a feeling I’ll be packing some winter gear.  Unless a freak heat wave rolls in on Thursday for the weekend.  I really don’t care either way, just as long as there isn’t a blizzard and my flights aren’t delayed or cancelled.

I’m also getting my hair done next week, and I’m at the point where it’s frustrating me and chopping it off sounds very tempting.  I know I’ll regret that the next day if I do it though, but it’s just so, long.  I also can’t figure out what to do about color.  The box dye I used has pretty much faded, and I’m thinking about maybe just getting some auburn low lights with blonde highlights thrown in?  Here’s a picture I took yesterday, thoughts?

I’ll probably spend much of the next week looking for pictures of hair cuts and color I like.  Should make me pretty productive at work.  Alright, try to enjoy your Monday.
