Thintervention

Um, so first of all check this out.  This was on the car in front of me on my way into work this morning.

Really?  You’re a vampire huh?  That’s interesting.  People are so strange.  Second, I was reminded this morning of my least favorite thing about summer ending.  When my alarm went off at 6:05 this morning, it was still pitch black outside and in my room.  I first thought that my alarm was going off at the wrong time, sadly it was not.  The sun finally started to come up during my drive, sadly it will only get worse before it starts to get better.

Since I was practically falling asleep with my eyes open at my desk yesterday, I took a rest day at the gym and worked on a little scrap booking project I’m doing.  I was so involved and distracted by it that I almost completely forgot about dinner.  Notice I said almost, haha.  There was some amazing food in the suite on Monday night, and we took home the leftovers for dinners and lunches this week.

Probably didn’t need both the crab cake and the burger, but it sounded good at the time.  I really need to get better about my portion control, that’s going to be my goal for the month of September.  That and to cut back on the glasses of wine during the week.  There I said it here, now you all have to hold me to it!

Ok, so did any catch Jackie Warner’s new show Thintervention on Bravo last night?  I was a fan of her other show Work Out when it was on, so I wanted to see what this one was like.  It’s a lot like The Biggest Loser except without a monetary prize at the end, just a winning result of a healthier you.  I like the show in theory, but the only problem I have with it is the nutritional advice that Jackie dishes out.  I did some web searching, and it looks like the only certifications/degrees that she has are these two, International Sports Science Association (I.S.S.A.), and National Endurance and Strength Association (N.E.S.T.A.).  I found that on her website, jackiewarner.com.  While I appreciate that someone can know nutritional information without a degree in nutrition, it makes me wonder where she gets information like “adding lemon juice to water will burn an extra 75 calories a day”.  Also, she made all the participants throw out everything with over 5g of sugar per serving, and claims yogurt isn’t a healthy snack.  I don’t really see Greek yogurt doing tons of damage to my body, but is it really?  While I don’t doubt that she is a fantastic personal trainer and will kick your booty into shape, I just have to wonder where she gained all this information about food and diet and whether or not it’s true or just for the sake of entertainment.  What do you guys think? I also have a problem with the name of the show, but that’s a post for another day.

Spinach and artichoke pizza

Hooray for Thursday and for what is shaping up to be a gorgeous, sunny, 80 degree day.  That’s more like it May!  Yesterday after work I hit the gym for a nice 30 minute workout on the treadmill.

  • 10 minute warm-up, incline 2.5-5.5 and speed 3.4-4.2 mph
  • 20 minute run, incline 1.5, speed 6.0-6.5 mph
  • 2 minute cool-down
  • Total distance, something like 2.7 miles

This was definitely the best I have felt in a run yet, and as much as I’ve enjoyed swimming it felt awesome to break a serious sweat.  Can’t do that in a pool.  My knee felt pretty good the whole time, and there was no lingering pain after I finished or this morning.  We will see how things are looking when I go to PT tonight.

I also did some crazy ab move that I saw over on Anne’s blog yesterday morning.  You know, the one where you lower your legs to the floor with the exercise ball squeezed between your feet while holding hand weights above your head.  I used a 10lb medicine ball instead of weights, but the effect was the same I think.  I liked this ab move and will definitely be integrating it into my workouts.

After the gym, as expected I had a text from my sis asking what was for dinner.  We decided on a California Pizza Kitchen frozen pizza, so I ran in the store to pick on up on my way home.  Now you all know about my love for Spinach and Artichoke dip, so when I saw that CPK had a limited edition Spinach and Artichoke Pizza I knew I had to try it out.  We threw together a quick salad to accompany our pizza.

This was one of those salad kit things that comes in a box with the dressing, croutons, and cheese included.  It was Light Caesar which was perfect with our pizza.

Oh my god, was this good.  The big chunks of artichoke, the spinach, the creamy cheese with a crispy crust.  Amazing.  I may stock up while the limited time lasts.  My sister and I ate the whole thing.  Three servings my ass, it’s perfectly sized for two :).

Yup, I ate four slices and I’m not ashamed about it.  They are pretty small after all.  During dinner my sister and I also watched the movie Valentine’s Day, which honestly was different than I was expecting it to be.  There were a lot more sad moments then I was expecting, but overall I enjoyed it.  Glad I waited until it was out on video to watch it, but still liked it.

Last night was also the season finales of Modern Family and Cougar Town, whatever will I do all summer?!?  Both were hilarious as usual and had my sis and I laughing out loud.  I heard that they were going to change the name of Cougar Town for next season though, since it really isn’t about older women dating younger men at all.  Will be interesting to see if they do and what they come up with.

I’m off to NYC for the weekend after work tomorrow.  One of my best friends is having a law school graduation party on Saturday out on Long Island, so I will also be making a trip out there.  It should be really fun, I hope the weather stays nice!  What are you all up to this weekend?

Chick-fil-A Temptations

As far as Monday’s go, yesterday wasn’t as horrible as it had the potential to be.  It was Monday, it was raining, and I was sleep deprived, but I made it through the day and even out to the gym.  Ah, the gym.  Not someplace you would typically expect to encounter numerous Chick-fil-A party platters right?  Well if you are me, and you went to my gym last night you’d be wrong.  I walked in the front doors and the first thing I see is my friend holding a giant platter of Chicken Nuggets (he works there).  “You want some?” he asks.  Oh do I!  Only my favorite fast food eva, of course I do!  Now get that platter the hell away from me.  Then I ran away to the treadmill.  Phew that was a close call.  They also had platters of the various wraps and chicken salad sandwiches.  Why do you do this to me LA Fitness, why?!  Thankfully there was a crowd of teenage boys playing basketball that managed to demolish everything, and it was all gone by the time I finished my workout.  This is why I don’t bring my wallet to the gym, I totally would have gotten in my car and driven to Chick-fil-A (it’s practically across the street) instead of going home to make dinner.

Yes, my chest and shoulders are quite sore today, but it’s a good feeling since I had really been slacking in the strength training lately.  Perhaps there will be some more weights in my future tonight.

For dinner, I was planning on eating the rest of my tofu lo-mein but when I got home my mom had already gotten to it.  Well, I should say she got to the rest of the noodles and some of the tofu and veggies.  Good thing tofu, peppers, onions, carrots, and broccoli make an excellent salad and pizza topper!

Sooooo good.  I think I’m developing an addiction to flat bread pizza, which means I need to go to TJ’s to buy more flat bread.  Did anyone watch Gossip Girl last night?  It’s my guilty pleasure, the clothes, the shoes, the drama!  It didn’t feel right watching Vanessa and Dan together, I felt all awkward and uncomfortable.  Anyone else agree?  Blair and Chuck though, they are my favorite!  I heard a nasty rumor that they split for good this season, that would make me very very unhappy so hopefully it is not true.

It’s Tuesday, so LOST tonight!  Woooo can’t wait!  Alright, well I hope everyone has a fabulous day!
