Christmas 2011

Was busy.  The craziness kicked off on December 23, with the annual Christmas party with my mom’s side of the family.  We headed about an hour and a half south to my Aunt’s house in NJ for food, presents and cocktails.

My leg looks weird

On Christmas Eve, I was pretty much alone for most of the day, so I baked a cake.  Then around 3 pm, I once again headed south to NJ to meet my Aunt, Uncle and cousin for our annual Christmas Eve dinner.  My sister was working and my mom was with her boyfriend’s family, so it was a little strange that it was just me this year.

On the way home from dinner with my family, I stopped to hang out with Darren and his family for a little bit while they enjoyed their Christmas Eve dinner at his ex-stepmom’s, husband’s, daughter’s house (did you get that?).  Then it was home to see my sister, wish her a Merry Christmas Eve and open stockings before heading to Darren’s house for the night.

Christmas morning was spent there, watching his younger brother and sister open their gifts, eating breakfast and relaxing before an afternoon of socializing and parties.

The rest of Christmas day included two visits to family friend’s houses, one dinner at Darren’s house, and then finally back to my house to open presents.  At 10 pm at night.  It was a long day and I was more than ready to get into pajamas and not move for the rest of the night.

I must have been really good this year, because I pretty much got everything I asked for!  In fact, I’m wearing my gorgeous new watch right now.  For the things I didn’t get, I have a nice little J. Crew gift card to make use of that can probably remedy that :).

I’m extremely sad that Christmas, my vacation, and my extra long visit with Darren is over, and being back at work today is majorly rough.  Luckily it’s only a four-day week, and Darren arrives down here on Friday for NYE.  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday as well!

I’m Ready to GO

Well good afternoon and happy Friday to you all!  I am happy to report that I am currently blogging from the breakfast bar in my mom’s kitchen and Pumpkin is snoozing in a big comfy chair.  We left Arlington at 7 pm last night and pulled into the driveway here in PA right before 10.  Not a bad drive at all.

How did Pumpkin fare?  Well, since I am a huge softy, she lasted about 2 minutes in her cat carrier before I opened it and let her out.  Once she was free to roam around the car she settled down immensely, and spent the entire car trip laying down on the back ledge by the rear windshield.  Much better than dealing with a crying cat for three hours.

Darren got into town around 3 pm yesterday, so he was at my front door about 10 minutes after I got home, and just missed helping me unload my car.  He was devastated.  We were both exhausted from our long days, him driving through the night from Wisconsin and me working all day and driving home, so we fell asleep in the middle of a movie before midnight.

This morning has been spent watching my work email for anything that may need doing (as of 12:43 pm there has not been anything) and counting down the hours until I can put my out of office message up.  I also accomplished some Christmas related tasks and got everyone’s presents wrapped.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here!  Look closely, see that little dog under there?  That’s not where I put it when Pumpkin and I got here.  Three guesses as to where the cat spent the night, haha.  She loves that damn stuffed dog.  Dar and I are all checked in for our 8:50 am flight tomorrow, and I am so excited.  I can’t believe that by this time tomorrow we will be in Jamaica for an entire week.

So far I have two posts scheduled to go up while I’m gone so that you guys don’t go into withdrawal from missing me.  I’m hoping to get at least one more written.  I probably won’t be on the internet at all while we’re gone 1) because I don’t feel like paying for wi-fi 2) because Darren will beat me if I’m constantly checking my email or twitter and 3) I just don’t want to be online, haha.  I’ll be sure to take a ton of pictures to share when we get back.  So, until then, BYE!

Sad It’s Over

Well Christmas has officially come and gone, and I’m pretty sad about it.  Now there is nothing to look forward to about winter and bitter cold temperatures except maybe the hopes of a snow day.  Speaking of snow, while we did not have a white Christmas, I’m currently sitting on the couch waiting for the huge snow storm that’s expected to hit.  Christmas was a great one this year, and Santa was very good to me.

The tree!

My mom’s sister and brother and their families arrived at our house on Christmas Eve for appetizers and cocktails before we headed over to the restaurant for dinner.  We used to cook a whole big meal like Thanksgiving, but as everyone has gotten older it has just become easier and more fun for everyone to go out to dinner.  The past two years, instead of my sister, mom, and myself making the trek down to New Jersey, the family has been coming here.

And yes, I am wearing the exact same outfit that I wore for my Christmas party in VA last week.  Whatever it’s a very Christmasy dress!

Then my mom and Aunt started urging me to open one of my presents, even though it was only Christmas Eve.  Typically we are a family that opens stockings on Christmas Eve and all the presents Christmas morning, but hey if they really wanted me too who was I to argue.  Very glad I did, because look what I got!

It was super geeky how excited I was when I tore off the wrapping paper and discovered my fantastic new mixer.  The roommates better prepare themselves for lots of baking adventures and get their appetites ready.  A little before 8 we made our way across the street to Christine’s for dinner.  Everything was amazing, I went safely and ordered Vodka Rigatoni, but stole some of my sisters meal which was incredible!

Lobster and Crab Ravioli, topped with crab meat and Shrimp

So good, and definitely what I’ll be ordered if I return to Christine’s any time soon, minus the shrimp though since I don’t like those.

cheers to Christmas!

After dinner my sister and I said goodbye to the family, and goodnight to our mom who was heading to bed, and made our way over to Darren’s house to hang out with him and his family for a little while.  His little brother and sister were 8 and 5 when we started dating, so it’s was so weird to sit and hang out with them as a 17-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl.  We had a great time sitting around the table talking, laughing, and having a few drinks, and before we knew it, it was 3:30 in the morning and time to head home.

Christmas morning I woke up to my sister climbing in bed with me, just like when we were little ;).  We slowly made our way downstairs, where I immediately put on a pot of coffee.  Then it was time for presents!  Along with the Kitchen Aid mixer I ended up with season 1 of Glee, The Pioneer Woman’s cookbook, the North Face long puffy jacket I asked for, some clothes, and every single old family video on DVD.  Obviously the rest of the morning was spent watching those old family videos and laughing so hard there were tears in our eyes.

There was another Christmas party at our neighbors house last night, where we enjoyed a full Italian feast.  Todays plans are somewhat up in the air because of the impending storm, but we’re supposed to go to my Aunts and then tonight I’m having dinner with my girlfriends.  The original plan was to head back down to VA tomorrow, but I may be stuck here until Tuesday.  I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and enjoys the rest of the time with their families!
