Today is my Thursday

Short weeks make me smile, even if it really doesn’t even seem that much shorter.  Today is like my Thursday since I have off Friday.  I’m headed back up to NYC tomorrow after work so that Alex and I can fly out bright and early (our flight is at 6:45) Friday morning for Iowa.  Alex’s brother is getting hitched on Saturday, and he is the best man so we have tons of fun wedding adventures on the schedule for this weekend.  I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of freaking out about our flights.  We couldn’t find an affordable direct flight so we have layovers both going there and coming home, with only like 45 minutes between one flight landing and the other taking off.  Please keep your fingers crossed that none of our flights are delayed and we don’t miss our connections!  Oh, and can you still check in online if you don’t have a printer to print your boarding pass?

After skipping yoga last week, I really didn’t want to go last night but I made myself and I’m glad I did.  It felt really great to get in the stretching and body weight work, although the room was absolutely freeeeeeeezing.  I had on a long sleeve shirt and pants for the first five minutes or so.  That’s what I hate about cool days during a summer that has been hotter than hell, the ac still pumps full blast even though it was only 65 out.  Anyway, definitely feeling it in the muscles today that I took a week off.

After yoga I came home and made dinner for me and my mom.  We had some peppers in the fridge that needed to get used, so I made my Zucchini Pepper Basil Pasta.

  • 1 zucchini
  • 3/4 – 1/2 of red, yellow, and green pepper
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • big handful of spinach
  • handful of basil
  • 1 jar of Vodka sauce
  • Topped with Parmesan

I used a whole 16 oz bag of Organic Whole Wheat Penne pasta and a jar of organic Vodka sauce, and it was delicious.  I wanted to make enough to enjoy leftovers for the rest of the week, and was quite successful.  So yeah, you already know what I’m having for dinner tonight :).

Tonight I have to pack, and you all know how much I enjoy that.  I’m trying to avoid the overpacking this trip since not only will I be lugging crap on a train, in a subway, and through the streets of NYC but also into a cab, through an airport, and then back home again.  Good thing I’ve been doing all this yoga to strengthen my arms.  I’m actually making a list of things I need, this is what I’ve got so far.  Anything stand out that I might be missing?

Something comfy and warm for the plane
Rehearsal dinner outfit (BCBG skirt and J Crew t-shirt)
Gold flat sandals

Clothes for running
Shorts and a top for the day
Dress for wedding (BCBG dress)
Clean unmentionables (something I always seem to forget for some reason)
Shoes that I’m still trying to decide on

Something comfy for the plane ride home
More clean unmentionables

Ok, so what am I forgetting?  I always, always forget something.

21 Day Cardio Body and Yoga Meltdown

Last night I utilized Exercise TV again, and did two workout videos.  I did the Brooklyn Decker Cardio Body workout, and then decided to check out Jillian’s Yoga Meltdown.  I’ve heard so much about it and how intense it is and I wanted to see for myself.  Here’s Pumpkin all ready to workout with me.

Doing two videos in a row might have been a little ambitious, because holy crap was I exhausted by the end.  My sister paused the TV during Jillian at one point and laughed, and was like you know you’re only half way done?  I thought for sure my arms were going to fall off of my body.  I kept waiting for her to tell us to push back into Child’s Pose, but I should have known there is no resting with Jillian.  I loved it though, and am now considering purchasing the actual DVD and will revisit level one through exercise TV as soon as I can move my triceps again.  Pumpkin gave up half way through, and went right to the bathing process.

For some reason, after a strenuous workout (especially when I know my muscles will be screaming the next day) I want nothing more than a giant glass of red wine.  Ok well I most always want a giant glass of red wine, but I’m convinced it keeps me from getting as sore also.  I schlepped across the street to the liquor/grocery store, picked up a bottle of Malbec, and some tortelloni.  Our off button for the oven currently isn’t working, so uh using it isn’t an option.

I used my toaster oven to roast some asparagus with olive oil, salt, and pepper and put that on the bottom of my plate.

Then I added the pasta, sauce, and a sprinkle of shredded Mozzarella.

It was good, and the addition of the asparagus made it a much more filling meal.  The sauce was a little bland for my taste, so I think when I use it again I’ll add some more seasoning to it.  Overall a quick, delicious, and healthy meal.

Tonight is hopefully my very last PT appointment.  I’ve realized I’m so nervous about working out though and am afraid to push myself because of my leg.  I still just keep expecting it to hurt, I wonder how long it will take before I trust my body again?

So many prizes!

Is there anything better then coming home from work, and having not one but three packages waiting for you!?  No, I didn’t think so.  First up was the giant box that had been delivered to my front steps.  I had almost forgotten that my mom and I had ordered the third piece of my luggage set last week!

My mom is going to Italy for 18 days next month, and needed another suitcase so she figured if she was going to buy one that we might as well buy one that matches my carry-on and rolling duffel.  Now I just need to go on a trip so I can use them all :).

That delivery alone would have been enough to make my day, but I ran out to grab the mail in the mail box, and there were two more packages with my name on them!  Last week, Leslie at And Her Little Dog Too was doing an Inperspire give-away, and I was one of the lucky winners.  My Inperspire towel came yesterday, and it is awesome!

I can’t wait to use it at the gym, so thanks to Leslie and Inperspire!  And the last prize that came in the mail yesterday was from The Angry Runner.  She accidentally ordered a very nice Brooks running shirt in the wrong size, and was looking to trade with someone and I jumped all over it.  You can be expecting your Starbuck’s gift card!

And you’re right, everyone does love stickers!  So yesterday kind of felt like my birthday, and it was awesome.  After all of my glorious present opening, I had to run out to a doctor’s appointment and then to PT.  PT was the same old stuff just another day, but I did jog for five minutes yesterday!  Woo, getting up there!  Apparently we are just going to build on the time each session.  Fingers crossed I stay pain-free.  During the massage part yesterday, my therapist told me it still felt very tight, but maybe just a little less than before.  That’s good news right?  Sigh, I hope so.

Dinner last night was made from my Easter basket goodies.  Basil Oregano Fettuccine and Feta Stuffed Olives.  I am not a fan of olives, so my plate consisted of just some pasta.

It was good, but I’m guessing the olives give it most of the flavor, because mine just tasted sort of plain.  I would probably buy this pasta again, but use it in a different recipe.

Tonight I am going to a Philly Foodie meet-up in the city, and I am super excited!  I can’t wait to meet all these girls, who I feel like I already know.  And it’s supposed to be a beautiful evening.  Don’t worry there will be a full re-cap tomorrow.  I hope everyone has a lovely day, can you believe there is only one week left in the month of April?
