Our 4th Festivities

Hello and happy Tuesday to everyone!  How was your 4th of July weekend?  Mine was fantastic.  We had a typical 4th of July bbq with burgers, turkey burgers, corn on the cob, pasta salad, and potato salad.  I prepared the burgers with my usual spices.  Worcestershire, McCormick Montreal Steak Grill Mates, onion powder, garlic powder, seasoned salt, and pepper.

Then we opened up the hot tub and waited for the sun to set to watch the fireworks.  This was by far my favorite way to watch fireworks, drink in hand, and from the comfort of our deck.

Yesterday, even on the beach, was super hot, and the current must have shifted because the ocean water was a good 10 degrees colder than it was on Sunday.  The boyfriend and I went down around 11-11:30 and last until about 3 when we made the decision to come back up to the pool.  It was too hot to sit on the beach without being able to comfortably go in the water.  I think our second option was just as awesome.

Sitting in the pool and reading = the perfect way to stay cool during a heat wave.  I was ready to call it quits in the sun after about another hour of that, plus it was time to get ready for dinner.  The adults were having an adult only dinner at a restaurant, so us kids decided to go out too.  Two years ago when we were down here we went to this restaurant and I have been dreaming about going back ever since.

We proceeded to have a surf and turf feast.  For appetizers we ordered a crab dip, steamed shrimp, and chicken wings.  Then for the main courses I had the She Crab Soup and some fries covered in Old Bay, my sister ate 1lb of Alaskan King Crab Legs, and both the bf and my cousin Drew ordered the ribs.  Everything was sooooo good, and we all cleaned our plates.

The best part of this restaurant is the views of the sunset over the sound.

This morning, my sister and I went out for another 3 mile run and immediately jumped into the pool when we got back.  It was already about 82 degrees and humid at 8:30 this morning and we struggled through the whole thing, but at least we got it done.  The bf is off golfing today, and I told him to make sure he stayed hydrated.  Alright I’m off to the beach for a little bit and then will probably end the day by the pool.

Have a great Tuesday everyone! I hope to get some actual blog reading in some time today, what have you all been up to?! I miss you guys!

One month to go

Happy Thursday everyone!  I love when short weeks seem to fly by.  I also think I would always much rather have a Monday off then a Friday.  It seems easier to just drag yourself to work for one more day, and a Monday off feels more rewarding.  Just me?

Last night I hit the gym for my workout since it was still 90 degrees outside at 4 pm.  Surprisingly I had a great treadmill workout and no knee pain!

  • 32 minutes total (something like 3.1 miles)
  • 5 minute warm-up (.4 miles)
  • 2.5 mile run (about 23 or 24 minutes)
  • 3 minute cool-down

I was a sweaty mess afterwards and did some stretching, abs, and push-ups.  Pigeon pose is like my bff, I spend a lot of time in it after a run.  I will never neglect stretching my IT Bands again.

Dinner was a California Pizza Kitchen Frozen Pizza, the Spinach and Artichoke one again, it might just be my new favorite.

It really took all of my self-control to not eat the entire thing, I had to make myself put it into the fridge so it would stop staring at me.  I’m very excited because I don’t have PT tonight, the therapist took a vacation day or something, so I think the sis and I are making kabobs, whoooo!

Even more exciting news is that this time next month I will be en route to the Outer Banks, NC for my week-long beach vacay.  I haven’t been since 2008 so I’m pretty pumped.  Here are some of my fav pics from various OBX trips.

And here’s where we’ll be staying in Duck this year!

Just Beachy!

I know my sister is going to yell at me for counting down the summer away, but I really just want to be on vacation!

Progress, I guess

So last nights workout was supposed to look like this:

1.5 M jog
5x400m, 2 min recoveries
1.5 M jog

Instead, it was this:

Walk for 5 min at 4.4 mph
Run until 2 miles at 6.0 mph
Walk for cooldown
25 min on the elliptical

Not really the same thing at all.  The good news is I almost ran a full 2 miles, the bad news is that by the end my knee was hurting.  I just really want to be able to run my race in May, that is the goal I am working towards.  Mad props though to the guy running next to me.  He had 1 prosthetic leg and was still putting down some serious mileage.  So motivational.

Over the weekend, we finally booked our house for our summer vacay to the Outer Banks in North Carolina.  I am very excited to spend a whole week lounging on the beach reading.  Check out how sweet our place is!

My last vacation was January 2009, so I am very excited.  We will be there from July 3 – July 10 for the 4th of July holiday.  And then, my 25th birthday is the next week.  I am so excited for summer, it can’t come soon enough.

Are any of you all going on fun summer vacations?

They say it’s going to be in the 50s this weekend!  Bring on the springtime temps, and get this stupid snow out of here.  Hope everyone has a nice Tuesday, today is my friend Ashley’s b-day so we are going out to lunch to our favorite Deli to celebrate.  I’m very excited.
