Lots of Lounging

Monday’s after a relaxing weekend at home are a lot more tolerable than Monday’s following a weekend of travel.  I almost feel like a human being today, and that’s probably because I barely left the house all weekend.  Sadly for you all, that means I don’t have much to say today, but I think you’ll get over it.

Friday night involved a lot of lounging around on the couch and finishing up Mad Men.  I’m all caught up and ready for season 5 to start, and I was kind of surprised how season 4 ended.  I’m super excited to see what happens when it starts again!

Saturday I left the house, but only to hang out on my back porch and get some sun.  I lasted for about 2 hours before I realized just how effing hot out it was, and that I’d much rather be inside where it was nice and cool.  There was a lot more lounging, I finally finished up the book I was reading (Sing Me Home by Jodi Piccoult, I didn’t really like it) and lots of movie watching once my roommate Adrienne returned from the bridal shower she had to go to.

We watched a bizarre movie called Wedding Daze, The Graduate, and finally You Again, which we both agreed the previews did not do justice.  The movie was really cute and pretty hilarious.  I also eventually ordered a pizza for dinner… see I told you, no leaving the house.

After a Saturday spent lounging around doing nothing, I decided I couldn’t spend my whole Sunday the same way.  After breakfast and coffee, and a viewing of The Roommate, Adrienne and I decided to go on a nice walk.  Well a Sunday afternoon walk turned into an 8 mile adventure, and over 2 hours later we finally returned home.  A stop a Smoothie King around mile 6 helped to fuel us for the rest of the way home, but didn’t really do much to diminish the hunger pangs for a delicious dinner.

A quick call to our other roommate to see if she was in for dinner, and one trip to the grocery store later, we were home again with steaks and the makings for some amazing mashed potatoes.  It’s not often I crave a juicy steak, so when I do I tend to give into it and go all out.

Broiled steak, chive and sour cream mashed potatoes, and broccoli.  The steak was broiled to perfection (thanks Dani) and the mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious.  I cleaned my entire plate and washed it down with a glass of red wine.  A great Sunday dinner to wind down the weekend.  I have one steak left to cook tonight, and will probably eat some of it, and leave the rest to top my salads at lunch during the week.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend as well and are surviving the Moday.

Survey Says!

The other day I was tagged by Shelby for one of those fun survey things, and since I have nothing else to really tell you about today, besides the fact that I watched Beauty and the Beast last night, here goes!

1. Vacation: beach or mountains? Beach.  I am not a mountains girl, I am a lay on a lounge chair with a drink in my hand type of girl.  Well wait, unless the mountains vacation was in a giant cabin, with a hot tub.  Then I could probably get behind that.

2. Luggage: check it or carry it on? Check it.  I am far too indecisive to pack for a trip in a carry on size suitcase.  Plus I have a lot of shoes.

3. Bed: make it or leave it a rumpled comfy mess? If people are going to see my room I’ll make the bed.  If not, rumpled comfy mess.

4. Races: smaller or bigger? Hmm not sure I’ve run enough of them to really form an opinion about this.

5. Toilet paper roll: over or under? Over?  I don’t think I really care.

6. Pancakes: thick and fluffy or thin and crepe-like? Thick and fluffy, definitely.

7. Alarm: get up or hit snooze? Get up.  If I hit snooze I’ll be sound asleep in seconds and then running late.

I think now I’m supposed to tag 7 people and make up questions for them to answer, but I’m too lazy to do both so I’m just going to tag some of you and just answer these 7 questions.  Amy, Leah, Kace, Kacy, Hope, Katie, and Meghan.  Have fun ladies!

So yeah, last night, the roommates and I enjoyed a roommate dinner, watched Beauty and the Beast, laughed about our ridiculous antics from Saturday night, and may have started formulating Halloween costume ideas for next year.  It was pretty great.  Last Thursday night when it was snowing, we were desperately searching the On Demand for a movie to watch and thought we’d come across Beauty and the Beast, got so excited, hit play, and it was some weird movie, definitely not what we were hoping for.  Talk about a let down, so we were pretty excited when we saw it was on last night while flipping through the guide.  It was fate.  And then three 25 year-old women watched a Disney movie, and sang a long to every song.  Because obviously there was also wine involved.  Three bottles to be precise.  We like our wine.

I just got out of a two-hour staff meeting, during which I was both starving and dying of thirst, so basically it was torture.  At least now it’s almost lunch time!  Happy Tuesday, only two days left to get through!

An Eventful Weekend

Wow, I can’t believe it is Sunday night already!  I’ve had a pretty productive and fun weekend here though.  Friday night my roommate Adrienne and I decided to head into DC for dinner and drinks.

Ready for a night out!

We met one of her other friends at The Front Page, which is conveniently located right across from the Dupont metro stop.  I was going back and forth between the Penne alla Vodka and the Pasta Primavera, but ultimately decided I felt like some veggies so the Pasta Primavera it was.

After dinner the three of us moved on to Adams Morgan where we spent the rest of the night between two bars after meeting up with the rest of our group.  The first bar included one dollar jello shots, and then we finished up across the street dancing until 2:30 am.  A late night for me for sure, but well worth it since it was so much fun.  Needless to say, Adrienne and I were both a little slow to get the day started on Saturday and probably only got out of bed when we did because the chimney sweep was coming at 10.  As immature as it might be, when I opened the door for them and they said, “Hi, I’m so and so and I’m here to sweep your chimney.”  I started laughing and had to walk away/pretend cough.  Luckily Adrienne followed up behind me to let them in.

After the chimney was cleaned of the various things that were clogging it (we chose not to know the specifics) and they left, it was off to the mall to finish Christmas shopping.  I am happy to report that I crossed everyone off my list, despite the hangover and hot flashes.  Now I just need to wrap everything.  After shopping and a quick lunch at Baja Fresh, it was back into DC to retrieve Adrienne’s credit card from the bar she thought she left it at.  Unfortunately when we got there they said they didn’t have it, but at least I got some nice shots of the city while driving around.

After a late Friday and a Saturday full of errands, Adrienne and I were more than happy to declare Saturday night low-key.  On the way home from DC, we picked up a few bottles of wine, a spinach and artichoke dip appetizer and finally made our way home.  First thing on the agenda was to make use of our newly cleaned fireplace.

We put away our wine purchases, relaxed on the couches, poured ourselves a glass, and settled in for a night of movie watching.  On the list?  The Santa Clause and It’s a Wonderful Life.  The spinach dip served as a great late night snack, and it was a great way to spend a Saturday night after a crazy Friday.

Wine and Fire

Today was just as productive and exciting, but I’ll save all that to tell you about tomorrow ;).  We’ve currently got the fire-place roaring again and I’m about to start making us dinner.  Have a great Sunday night everyone!
