More Birthday Fun

Thank you all for the birthday wishes yesterday!  You totally helped to make my day and snap me out of my birthday blues!  My day was actually going very well until about 3 pm, when shit got crazy, and three different groups of people needed their crap back by COB.  Yeah, you’re dreaming, but I’ll do my best.  I ended up staying late to finish one of the projects, and then hightailing it home.  I had a dinner date with two lovely ladies after all.

Prior to the work drama, I got in an awesome workout, especially for being tired on a Monday.  I completed two circuits (20 exercises) of the Spartacus workout and followed it up with 15 minutes on the elliptical.  This was my third time doing the workout, and I’m still loving it and the ass kicking it gives me.  It’s also nice that I’m starting to remember the order of exercises and what comes next instead of having to check my phone each time.  I’m also muuuuuuuuuch less sore today than I was last week, so I may actually be able to get a decent run or two in this week also.

My group at work got me my favorite, Carvel ice cream cake, for my work celebration and I ate a giant slice and then had over half a cake left to deal with.  Have you ever driven an hour in 95 degree heat with an ice cream cake in your car?  I can now say I have, it was starting to get ugly just as I pulled up in front of my house.  I tried as best I could to keep it frozen, turned the AC as low as it would go, sat the cake on the car floor, and turned the feet vents on only.  There was still some meltage though… oh well it still tasted good later that night :).

For my birthday dinner, the roommates and I ventured into Georgetown to J. Pauls for some delicious seafood.  I started with a glass of champagne, because hey it was my birthday, and then we pretty much ordered everything on the menu.  Dani and Adrienne started with the shrimp cocktail, oysters, and clams, while I had some amazing chicken nachos.  For my main course I ordered the crab cake sandwich, and ate about half minus the bun.  It was one of the best crab cakes I ever had, and I can’t wait to eat the rest of it for dinner tonight.  Dani and Dre both went with the surf and turf and couldn’t have been happier.  Delicious and a perfect way to end my birthday.

Three days until I leave for a long weekend at the beach!

Ass, Kicked

Happy Tuesday fools, what’s going on?  I am so sore today that I almost couldn’t get out of bed this morning, and it’s all thanks to a new workout I tried yesterday.  My bff Jill is super sexy, no seriously Men’s Health uses her as the fitness model for their “Today’s Exercise” videos on their website, and the other day we got to chatting.  She knows I’ve gotten really into lifting lately, and she started telling me all about this workout she’s been doing that has been kicking her ass.  Naturally I was curious, and inquired about it.  She told me to download the Men’s Health Lite iPhone app, and check out The Spartacus Workout.  It was free, so I did, and started reading what it was all about.

To create the Spartacus workout, we chose 10 exercises that collectively work every part of your body, and then placed each at a 60-second station, in order to challenge your heart and lungs as well as your muscles. The final product: A high-intensity circuit that’s designed to burn away fat, define your chest, abs, and arms, and send your fitness levels soaring. So you’ll sculpt a lean, athletic-looking body—while getting in the best shape of your life.

Ten exercises, 60 seconds?  Sounds like my kind of thing, so yesterday in the gym I set myself up in the group fitness room and got to work.  Holyyyy shit, did I get my ass kicked.  I’ve never worked so hard in a short 25 minute time period (uh yeah I only went through twice because I thought I was going to die), I was sweating and breathing harder than after a 5 mile run, and my legs?  Jello.  It was awesome.  For the first set I went through with 12 lb weights, and then downgraded to 10 for the second because I thought my legs were going to fall off.

Today my ass and thighs are burning, and I’m not sure what the hell I’m going to be able to do in the gym.  I sent the workout to Dar who also tried it yesterday, and he even said it kicked his ass.  I plan on trying to do it two times a week instead of my usual lifting and we’ll see what happens.  If yesterday and how I feel today are any indication though, I think it’s going to be great.  Oh and I somehow managed to pedal along on the elliptical for 15 minutes after the workout.

I arrived home last night to the fuses in the upstairs all blown, meaning my room AC was off all day, and it was 98 degrees outside, yaaay.  I quickly fixed it and planted myself in the living room watching Season 1 of Mad Men until the upstairs cooled off.  I wish it were appropriate to drink in the middle of the day at work, work would be a lot more tolerable then.  Anyway, finished the first disc of the first season, and now just need to send it back to Netflix for disc 2.

Completely random, but is there anything better than putting a fresh pair of contacts in your eyes, because I think not.
