Hey, Did you know it’s Hot?

Oh hey, sorry for the disappearing act yesterday I was too busy roaming around town in a heat and booze induced stupor to blog.  Kidding, sort of.  I was working from home yesterday morning until 11, at which point I subjected myself to the disgusting weather, got on the metro, and made my way to the National Museum of American History to meet up with the rest of my work department.

Now I’m a huge loser and love museums, so I was actually kind of excited about this trip, and the subsequent scavenger hunt we were participating in while there.  We were split up into teams, given our clue sheet (cryptic questions that needed deciphering), and sent out into the museum for an hour and a half.  My team didn’t do very well, mostly because not everyone is as smart as me and they were wandering slowly through the museum.  Oh well, it was still fun.

After the scavenger hunt ended, it was back on the sweat box, I mean metro, and out to Crystal City for snacks and refreshments.  After a lovely stroll in the sunshine from the metro station to Jaleo, I arrived dripping with sweat and ready to quench my thirst with sangria.  Luckily I had just enough time to chug two glasses before the free drinks ended and it turned into a cash bar.  Then I paid $6.50 for a Hoegaarden because I was still thirsty.  The only food I managed so snag before the vultures got to it was three mini hot dogs… I was more concerned with booze.  The day ended at 3:30, at which point my lovely roommate was kind enough to drive my buzzed and heat stricken ass home.  There was more wine later last night while I packed and did laundry for this weekend.

Wednesday was a much regular day, so I won’t go into it much.  I did manage to do two full circuits of the Spartacus workout and 20 minutes on the elliptical so that was good.  Other than that, nothing really worth mentioning that I can remember.

The roommates and I are off to the beach this afternoon and won’t be returning until Monday, which means the blog won’t until Tuesday.  I’ll probably post random things on my Facebook page throughout the weekend, so feel free to check in there.  Tomorrow we will be here, doing lots of this.  Have a good weekend!

I Actually Cooked

Really? It’s only Wednesday?  Is this week dragging for anyone else?  I guess it’s because I’m so excited for next week, three-day work week, and then I get to see Amy and Dar!  Not to be too lame, but I really miss him right now.  Not only has it been almost 6 weeks since he was here in VA, but he’s so busy with work that we haven’t really been able to talk on the phone or Skype a lot recently either.  Plus with being sick and not feeling well, I kind of just want a big hug and Dani and Adrienne’s just aren’t the same, haha.

Ok moving on, I got in a very nice lunchtime 5k yesterday followed by my second weight workout of the week.  It was supposed to be back, bis, and legs, but I ran out of time so legs will have to be moved to a different day.

Not too shabby if you consider the first minute walking warm-up.  I started at 6.4 mph, ran at that speed for 1 mile, and then increased my speed by .1 every lap for the next mile and .2 for the last.  I ended up at 9.0 sprinting for the last little bit.

After work, instead of heading to my usual Harris Teeter, I decided to venture over to Trader Joe’s instead.  I filled my cart with the things actually on my list, and then of course some random purchases that caught my eye.  It’s lovely when two stuffed bags of groceries only cost $77, and I’m pretty sure I have enough food to last me at least 2 weeks.

Dinner was actually not something bought at TJ’s, but instead I made use of some leftover ground Turkey from when I made lasagna weeks ago.

Turkey burger seasoned with Worcestershire, garlic, and Montreal Steak seasoning, nice large slice of Provolone on top.  I was too hot for bread. That picture is just for these two because they loveeeee mayo and ketchup together ;).  Yes, I also dipped my fries in the mixture, muahahaha.

The best sweet potato fries ever.  That’s the one bad thing about TJ’s, they don’t sell Alexia products, so now I’m out and pretty sad about it.

It was pretty hard to get myself into the kitchen to cook actual food, and I was definitely sweating by the time I was done.  Yay for no air conditioning!  Oh god, I just remembered it’s going to feel like 105 degrees today, send help, or an air conditioning unit.  Well crap, I just checked the forecast and tomorrow is going to be even worse.

Two and a half more days, two and a half more days.  I think I can make it.

Weather and the World Cup

Um, I’ve been sitting staring at the computer for a while now trying to think of something interesting to write about, I still haven’t come up with anything so bear with me.  When all else fails, write about the weather right?  Well we’re in the midst of a heat wave over here in the Northeast with highs in the mid 90s, but feeling like 100.  Because of this I will unfortunately be forced back inside a gym and onto a treadmill for the next few days.

Last night on the boring treadmill, I did a 5 minute walking warm-up followed by 3 miles at a .5 incline increasing my pace each mile.  Mile 1 at 6.2 mph, mile 2 at 6.5, and then mile 3 ranging from 6.7-8.0.  Then I walked for a few more minutes to cool down.  It was a good run, I tried to focus on keeping my stride how it is when I run outside and my shoulders relaxed and loose.  I definitely missed my Garmin and the outside.

I’m still feeling a little tenderness on the inside part of my right knee and the back outside area from when I hyperextended it stupidly two weeks ago.  So I think I will take a day off from the workouts tonight.  It doesn’t hurt to walk or run on, just when I press on a certain spot and when I bend my leg all the way so my heel is touching my butt.  I don’t think it’s anything that rest and ice won’t cure.

Dinner last night was burgers I had made with some leftover ground beef and pasta salad.

My burger with a slice of Provolone cheese, lettuce, ketchup, and mayonnaise.

Tri-color Rotini pasta with carrots, cucumber, peppers, cherry tomatoes and Mozzarella cheese.  After dinner, my sister and I sat on the couch watching the horrible programming that makes up summer television, Wipeout and Downfall.  I don’t know why, but I find Wipeout one of the most entertaining shows, I would really love to go there and play on the course.  I think it would be the most fun thing ever.  Downfall is a new trivia game where they drop crap off the side of a building.  I just played along and made fun of how much the contestants didn’t know.

I’m currently listening to the USA/Algeria game on my headphones at work, hopefully I’ll be able to control any cheers or screams.  GO USA!
