Founding Farmers

Hey, remember that time I had an awesome weekend with some really pretty ladies and we went to Founding Farmers and I said I’d blog about the food later?  Well, I hope not, because clearly I had forgotten as it’s been almost 2 weeks since said visit.  Anyway, luckily for you, today I remembered so that’s what you’re getting from me.

It all started with a cocktail.  This cocktail to be specific, the Fraise Fling – Strawberries, lychees, Cap Rock Organic Vodka, agave, prosecco.

There was a whole fresh strawberry on the side, but I ate that before taking the picture.  It was very good, and very refreshing on the hot, hungover day that  was that Saturday.  After a round or two at the bar, we were shown to our table and I immediately started studying the menu.  Trying to look at it online on my phone was too overwhelming so I didn’t really know what I was in for.

Steph, having been before, insisted we order the Fried Green Tomatoes and Corn Bread to start.  Now, I’m not typically a fan of either of those things, but I figured I would go with it and I’m glad I did.

my picture is terrible but the corn bread was really good

Yup, I ate two slices, it was that good.  I enjoyed the actual whole corn kernels, and the butter served with it wasn’t too shabby either.

I wasn’t as thrilled with the Fried Green Tomatoes, and only ate half of one before passing it off to one of the other ladies.  My roommate Danielle loved them though, so maybe it was just me.  That greenish sauce you see served with them was fantastic also though.

For my meal, I couldn’t decide between playing it safe and predictable with the Rotisserie Chicken or venturing out of my comfort zone with something else.  Ultimately, after conferring with our waitress, I decided to go with the Slow Braised Beef Short Ribs with a side of mashed potatoes and mac and cheese.  Naturally.  I’m pretty sure my only previous experience with ribs was in the form of Pork, so I was really excited.

meatttttt

This was, So. Good.  I ate every last bite of that piece of meat, and then searched and searched for more, disappointed to realize it was all gone.

The mashed potatoes and mac and cheese were just as delicious, and I should be embarrassed to admit this but I’m not, I cleaned my plate.  I ate every single thing, and then I ate dessert.  Dessert, that I should mention, had to be ordered before we’d even gotten our meals.  I didn’t think I had room, but once these were put on our table I found it.

Holy sweet mother of God were those things good.  I ate one, with a little bit of each of the sauces; raspberry, chocolate, and caramel.  I want one now just thinking about how good they were.  This was easily one of the richest, and most decadent meals I’ve eaten in quite some time and the long walk back to Kacy’s apartment was a welcome relief at the end of it.

So to recap, it was delicious, I ate all of the food, I want to go back.

(Side note: I’ve heard random comments about the service here being AWFUL, but we had none of that.  Our waitress was awesome, answered all our questions, was attentive, and we never really had to wait for anything we needed.  Perhaps a 4:45 reservation is the key to success here).

Stuffing My Face

Heyo, what’s up? I stayed home sick from work on Friday, so I’m trying to get back into the swing of things and catch up with emails and work.  So, my last post was about how my cat mysteriously found her way outside Thursday morning, and thank god I stayed home Friday because she did it three more times.  After she went missing for the third time before noon, I scoured the house looking for openings and then finally just sat down to watch her.  Eventually she got up from her nap on the couch and meandered her way back to the laundry room.  First she had to slide the door to the laundry room open with her paw, and then I watched her do this:

Mystery solved,  and that doggy door is now taped closed.  The rest of the day was spent relaxing while my sister napped (she worked night shift and drove down early Friday morning) and grocery shopping for our weekend.  I had a fantastic weekend with my sis and I wish she could have stayed longer.

We cooked a crap load of food, watched three movies (I Don’t Know How She Does It, Moneyball, and Sarah’s Key), ventured into DC, and splurged on a dinner out at Dogfish where we contemplated ordering everything on the menu.

Now the food:

Crock Pot Buffalo Wings, recipe courtesy of my girl Jess

homemade Stromboli, and taco cupcakes

Both recipes I found on Pinterest, and you can find my board here to see the original recipes.  Everything was amazingly delicious and fantastic.  My sis left to head back to PA yesterday around 4, and I spent the rest of the day and evening making my way through leftovers and chicken wings.  It was a delightful weekend, and now I can really start to look forward to my trip to the mid-west next week!

Happy Monday!

Global Warming, it’s Real

It’s February (does anyone else say that totally weird in their head? No, just me, ok then) and in honor of the perfectly normal 65 degree weather for January 31, I took a 30 minute walk at lunch yesterday.

I ended up walking just about 2 miles, and since I currently cannot get into the gym and lift, it was a better workout than just doing nothing.  It was so nice out, I was afraid I was going to start sweating through my silk blouse, which since it is dry clean only would have been no bueno.  Um, if you’ve figured out where my office is from that picture please don’t come and stalk me.  I doubt if anyone would notice I went missing for at least a week.

After work I met the roommates at home and we ventured down the street to Bangkok 54 for dinner and some wine.  I ate my body weight in Chili Basil Fried Rice (oops hello carb overload yesterday) and enjoyed two glasses of Cab Sauv while chatting away.

I’m hoping to get away at some point this afternoon to go get my bangs trimmed, since they are currently too long to wear down and hang in my eyeballs.  Conveniently my hair salon is just across the street.  Maybe I’ll even walk to get some exercise in again.  I think there may be a chance of rain though, so we’ll see.

I think my back is on the mend, I can almost extend my arm fully straight in the air above my head without feeling like a rubber band is snapping, so hopefully I will be back in action in the gym soon.  I just almost said happy Thursday, it is only Wednesday.  Lame.
