What a Weekend

After tons of family time this weekend, I was more than ready to spend the majority of my day yesterday alone and relaxing to wind down the weekend.  Then I realized how absolutely gorgeous it was outside, and pulled my shit together and joined my roommates in Clarendon for an afternoon of beer drinking in the sun.  I got home around 8:30 last night, and immediately crawled into bed until it was bedtime around 11.  Let’s back up to the beginning though.

After a typically slow Friday afternoon at work, I decided to take 2.5 hours of vacation and call it a day at 2:00.  My mom, aunt, and sis were already in town and bugging me to come hang out with them before dinner, and so I did.  We headed out into Clarendon for pre-dinner drinks and Boulevard Woodgrill before moving on to our 6:45 dinner reservation at American Tap Room.  It was a wonderful evening that we capped off by doing some wine induced shopping at Lululemon and Ann Taylor.  I picked up this adorable new workout top, while my mom, sis, and aunt all got some things at Ann Taylor.

Saturday started bright and early, way too early for the amount of wine that was consumed on Friday night if you ask me, and my sister and I met back up with the fam (now joined by another aunt and uncle) for a day of sightseeing downtown.  You know what’s annoying? Having to get 4 people metro cards while trying to make a train arriving in two minutes.  We missed the train and ended up waiting for a good 20 minutes for another one.  We made it to our brunch reservation at Distrtict Chophouse about 30 minutes late, and I was more than ready for a mimosa and food by then.

After brunch, the 6 of us headed over to the Spy Museum for some culture and fun.  I really enjoyed the museum, but I think I would have liked it more on a Tuesday afternoon when it was less crowded.  It was hard to really take advantage of all the things it had to offer when there were so many people around.  My sister and I eventually found ourselves separated from the group and enjoyed the museum together.  Most amusing was this mug I thought about buying Dar for his birthday.

He didn’t see the humor in it that I did.  Oh well.  After we all made it through the museum, our adventures continued with a walk down to The Mall. My aunt had never seen the Jefferson Memorial up close, so we strolled down to the Tidal Basin to take a look and see if the Cherry Blossom’s were blooming yet.  FYI, they’re not.

Then it was back to the metro to head to the hotel for a quick outfit change before our dinner in Georgetown.  My aunt and uncle treated us all to dinner at their favorite place, Neyla.  I was a little apprehensive about the meal at first, as I’m not a very adventurous eater, but I ended up loving it!  We ordered an array of appetizers, and for my meal I went with the Chicken Shish Taouk and was happily surprised.  I told the roommates we’d have to go back and check it out again when it’s warm enough to sit outside.

It was a long and exhausting weekend that left my feet and lower back aching, but I’m glad we had good weather and got to explore DC.  Now I just need to get my sis out to Wisconsin and show her that it’s not too bad…

Happy Monday!

Insert Clever Title Here

Mmmmmk so, judging by the extreme lack of traffic this morning me thinks there are a good number of people playing “72 degree weather” hookie today. Lucky them.  I’m at work, but oh well what are ya gonna do.

No news about the house yet, the house buying gods are against us and do not want us to get one it seems.  The more I watch shows like Property Virgins and House Hunters the angrier I get (yes I know they’re fake) because NO ONE hears back about their offer on a property within hours of making it.  It’s a load of bull if you ask me.  I’m just ready for this stressful process to be over.

I’m still making a strong comeback in the gym this week and was able to work off some of that stress by doing some more cardio yesterday.  40 minutes on the elliptical (while getting angry at HGTV) and 20 minutes on the treadmill, I even ran for the last 5, followed by some stretching and planks.  I still feel like a blimp, but hopefully after a few more weeks like this I’ll be feeling back to normal.

Darren’s birthday is on Sunday, and for it I got him a racing wheel controller and Need for Speed video game for his XBOX, because apparently 28 is the new 8.  The wheel arrived at his house yesterday and he is anxiously anticipating the arrival of the game because “This wheel is soooo cool and shiny!” Yes, actual words said.

My mom, sister, and two aunt’s are coming to visit this weekend, and umm I have no idea what to do with them. If only it were going to be this nice on Saturday :(.  So far my only two thoughts are walk around Georgetown and eat and shop, or walk around the Mall/Monument area and eat.  I suck.

Also, I thought today was Friday for a while, realizing it wasn’t also sucked,  but I think I’m going to ask to leave a few hours early tomorrow so that should be nice.  Anyway, bye.

Parent’s Party

Holy weekend.  For the first time in quite sometime, I had a very active and busy weekend, and damn am I exhausted today.  It all started Friday after work with a bank breaking $315 grocery shopping trip (thank god that’s split between 3 people) followed by a run to Target, where not only did I buy the cupcake pan I needed but a “leather” jacket and some other crap I didn’t need.  Damn  you Target!  The roommates eventually headed out for the night, and I got around to preparing my desert for Saturday while waiting for my family to arrive.

I figured Mini Pumpkin Cheesecakes were the perfect dessert for a crowd of 12 at a fall BBQ, and are personally one of my favorite things.  I finished up with the cheesecakes just as I heard the front gate to my house open, and greeted my family at the door.  They were all in desperate need of a drink after their long drive, so we sat around chatting and having some wine before they left for the night to check into their hotel.

Saturday morning I was up bright and early to meet up with the fam for our 11 am lunch date.  We ended up at Rustico in Ballston, which was amazing, and the perfect pre-football game meal for me.  Yes, the roommates and I are once again involved in a sports league, this time touch football.  Sadly we lost our first game of the season, but I think with some practice, actual play calling, and our real quarterback we’ll be fine.

I parted ways with the family again after football and told them to be at our house at 6 for the BBQ, and then the roommates and I ran one last errand to Home Depot before hitting the showers at home to get gorgeous.  Well, at least slightly less sweaty and dirty than we were after football.

Roommates and siblings during the BBQ (missing: two sisters and one brother).  The BBQ went off without a hitch, our parents all got along wonderfully, I managed to cook the food without destroying it, and we never ran out of booze.  We stuck with a simple menu of burgers, beer brats, side salad, pasta salad, and baked beans.  Desserts were the mini cheesecakes and an apple pie baked by Adrienne’s mom.  Once dinner was over and people began to relax, we lit up the chiminea and sat around it chatting until 2 am.  Well us kids did, my mom and aunt were the last parents standing at 11 pm.

Thanks to all the fun on Saturday night, I woke up with one raging bitch of a hangover yesterday and was pretty much dead until noon.  I managed to drag myself out of bed (and off the bathroom floor) to say goodbye to my family, before crawling back into it until Adrienne and Dani made me get up for roommate fun day.  The Redskin’s game was monopolizing the TV, so we headed into Clarendon for some football watching.  We ended up at a pretty new place, American Tap Room, where we sampled pretty much the entire menu and enjoyed some beers.  We want to go back for dinner, asap.

I was in bed at 9:30 last night watching football, and sound asleep not long after that.  This is why I can only have exciting and eventful weekends every once in a while.  I’m too old, haha.  I hope everyone had a lovely weekend!
