Stuff and Things

Alright, I think I have finally pulled myself out of the depression that comes from admitting injury and dropping out of a race, so I’m back. I’ve also finally accepted that ignoring the pain in my hip for over a month hasn’t helped it get any better, so I’m actually calling a doctor today. Womp, womp. If my first broken bone ends up being my hip, at age (almost) 29 you can expect an endless amount of old age jokes. In order to avoid the sulking that would have come with staying in DC for the weekend while the race was going on, I got the hell out-of-town and headed to a place that always makes me happy.

hburgGood old Harrisonburg, Va, home of JMU. It was a great decision, because there’s nothing more I enjoy than outdoor day drinking even if we were pretending it was about 15 degrees warmer than it actually was. There was a variety of drinking games played and lots of cornhole. (Sidenote: if you need some awesome cornhole bags, my friend makes these  and you can get them in your team/school’s colors, also pictured above). I also discovered the gloriousness that is the Moscow Mule that weekend, and have declared them my drink of the summer. Now if someone wants to buy me some copper mugs to drink out of… I’d be ok with that.

This past weekend I hit up DC Beerfest at Nationals Park with a group of my friends, pictures above under my Instagram feed, and it was a perfect day for it. As is usually par for the course with day drinking in the sun and heat, I was home and in bed at 11 pm. Don’t mind me and my broken hip, I’m just busy being old.

That’s about all I have to say today. Ok, bye.

The Weather is as Drunk as I Was

So I ended up bailing out of my interval run last Wednesday night when my hip started hurting 1.3 miles into it. I took Thursday – Monday completely off and hopped on a treadmill tonight to slowly ease into a run and see how I felt. The verdict? 3.12 miles in 30 minutes without any popping/grinding in my right hip whenever I landed on that foot, so we’ll call it a success for now. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow. I’ve decided that if I can’t do the runs I need to do this week that I’m probably going to have to pull out of Cherry Blossom on April 6, keep your fingers crossed for me that it doesn’t come to that.

I had a fabulous weekend that mainly revolved around the 3rd annual St. Paddy’s “Kegs” and Eggs Party that my roommates and I started throwing back in 2012. The party starts at breakfast time and goes until the last person passes out. It’s always a delightfully drunken time where people in their late 20s and 30s try to pretend they’re still in college, and we once again seriously lucked out with the weather, especially after this winter. 70 and sunny, FTW!

Friends!

My shirt says “I Can’t Keep Calm I’m Irish” because… duh

We had some college buddies come in from out-of-town, which is always fun, because who doesn’t still love a big sleepover? I woke up on Sunday at 5:45 am, hurting, because someone (ahem it was not me) could not remember how their night ended and wanted me to tell them. This person is lucky I kind of like them, or I might have murdered them, or thrown up on them (ironically enough this almost happened a few hours later anyway, oops). There was more sleep to be had eventually, thank the lord. LUCKILY (read that with all the sarcasm) it started snowing on Sunday night and when I woke up on Monday morning there was about 10 inches on the ground so I got another day in the house to recover.

If it snows one more time, I’m cashing in my frequent flier miles and heading to Mexico. Who’s coming with me?

It Goes on and on My Friends…

Winter, that is. I just looked back through my archives and it was in the 80s on this day last March. Today… this:

spring… is that you?

This tree is confused

It’s still snowing, and accumulating, which makes this the most snow we’ve had in the DC/metro area since January 2011. I’m at work because, well I’m not sure why, I guess they neglected to look outside today or something. Anywho, before the snow moved in I actually had a lovely weekend enjoying the weather outside during which I drank waaaay too much and needed to spend all of yesterday in bed.

A few months ago, when we thought it would be awesome and warm by the end of March, a group of my friends and I all bought tickets for the inaugural DC Beerfest at Nats Park. It wasn’t nearly as warm as we expected, but it was in the 50s and sunny, so as long as you stood in the sunshine it was fabulous.

There were A LOT of different beers to try, and I did sample a good many of them. My least favorite? The one that tasted like a sour apple jolly rancher by Shock Top. Sadly that was my last beer of the day and I hated it.

Buddies

It was crowded, like super crowded, but I did manage to spot a few other friendly faces in the crowd, like Chase and my gurl Kacy.  After they kicked us out of the stadium at 4 pm, I made the less than brilliant choice to head out with Kacy and her fiance to continue my all day bender. We went to Matchbox for food (my first trip!) then Bar Pilar, and finally Lost Society where after some dancing and too many vodka and sodas we finally went home.

vodka soda… damn you!

I also lost many layers of my outfit as the night went on… remarkably I made it home with all of them. I ended up sleeping at Kacy and Tom’s and then they were kind enough to drive me home the next day, despite the threat of my barfing all over Tom’s car. It was completely unnecessary but so fun at the same time, well until I woke up in the morning.

So here we are at Monday, and 17 days away from my vacation to Ireland with my sis. I can’t believe it’s a little over two weeks to go! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. How was your weekend, were you as dumb as me?
