A Productive Rest Day

So yesterday I opted to follow my Sunday long run with a rest day, since I’ll be running three days in a row this week and I know my legs will appreciate it.  Since getting injured, I try to avoid running more than two consecutive days, but sometimes it can’t be avoided.  What’s a great activity to partake in on a rest day?  Shoe shopping!  I went back and forth about these boots, but ultimately decided that I would regret not buying them and I had a $20 off coupon, so they were practically free!  You can either wear them like they are shown in the picture, or fold the top over so they hit below the knee.  Pretty excited to wear them, too bad it’s going be back in the 90s this week, sigh.  I really went searching for some new black heels to wear to work every day, does anyone else have to replace theirs every year?  I really destroy mine I guess, but I didn’t find any that had a work appropriate heel height that I liked.  Guess that means I have to go back. 🙂

After shopping, I came home and got right to pulling dinner together.  I chopped up half a sweet potato into wedge slices, threw them in a plastic bag, seasoned with cinnamon and nutmeg, coated with olive oil, shook up the bag and spread them out on a baking sheet.  20 minutes later I had some delicious sweet potato wedges ready for eatin, and I partnered them with some leftover tortellini pasta salad from last week.

yummy sweet potatoes

I really can’t believe that I didn’t eat sweet potatoes like this until this year, not only does it taste amazing, but it is seriously one of the best smelling foods to ever come out of my kitchen.  After dinner I watched the season premier of How I Met Your Mother, delightful as always, and then some of Dancing With the Stars.  I’ll catch the half hour that I missed later this week.  Rick Fox really surprised me, he did so good and I was really surprised by it.  So happy DWTS is back!

Check out this adorable photo I forgot I took over the weekend:

My favorites

Can you see Pumpkin’s little face poking over the counter top?  Haha, Alex went to sit down to eat his leftovers Sunday afternoon and was immediately joined by the little baby.  She sat there next to him the whole time he was eating, just waiting for maybe a little piece of rib.  She’s too funny, for some reason she thinks she’s a dog and will beg for food, wait at the front door for you to come home, and always wants to sit on your lap.  Anyways she’s the best, and Alex and I both love her, which is amazing for him since he’s super allergic to her.  Also, in somewhat related news, I hate long distance relationships.  That is all.

Alright, happy Tuesday everyone.  Glee is back tonight and I am BEYOND excited, I love that show and I need some new Glee tunes to add to my running playlist.  Can’t wait!  Five miles on the training plan for tonight.  Unfortunately they will have to get done after I drop my car off at the dealership to get its sunroof fixed and annual maintenance done.  Have a great one!

Also, if you didn’t get a chance to vote for me yesterday for Project Food Blog you still can today!  Thanks to everyone who does, I really appreciate it!

Holy grocery shopping

So, this is what happens when the grocery shopper of the family goes to Europe for 18 days, and the only other two people in the house haven’t gone to the store since she left.

Actually, that container of humus wasn’t there before the most massive shopping trip of all time either.  So yeah, we have some wine, expired milk, and various things to mix with vodka.  It was a pretty sad sight.  Luckily, thanks to my very organized list, and an hour in the grocery store we were able to restock with all of this.

Yes, I know, I need to get reusable grocery bags.  I’m working on it, but now our fridge looks like this!

Both the deli drawer, and the crisper drawer are completely full also.  We’ve got some fresh milk, Greek yogurt, regular yogurt, ground turkey, two packages of chicken breasts, strawberry’s, blueberries, honey dew, cantaloupe, grapes, humus, green tea, cucumbers, corn on the cob, zucchini, yellow squash, a bag of spinach, a head of lettuce, deli chicken and american cheese, I could keep going.  You get the idea though, we basically had to buy EVERYTHING.  Now when I open my fridge I get all giddy and excited.  I also planned out the meals for me and my sis for the rest of the week, now dinner won’t be a text debate at 6:00 every night.  Score!

After my grocery shopping extravaganza, I reluctantly drove over to PT.  You know by now how that goes, some heat, stretching, strengthening, and then running in the rainforest.  Yesterday was even more hot and humid than usual because the receptionist got cold and turned the air off right before I got on the treadmill.  Lovely.  So 25 minutes and 2.2 miles later I died in a pool of sweat, and signed out and went home.  Fingers crossed that I only have 3 more sessions!

Dinner was a crab cake and some pasta sides thing, un-pictured because I scarfed it down in 5 minutes flat while chatting on the phone and watching Dancing With the Stars.  Tonight’s the results show, and I really can’t wait to see who wins, I love them all!  Derek and Nichole actually messed up last night, and that was the first time in awhile they’ve done that, it was sad, but it was at the very end and the rest of their dance was still amazing.

Happy Tuesday everyone, 3 more days till the long weekend!

A general theme

As far as Monday’s go, yesterday was pretty typical.  I had physical therapy from 6-8 last night, which was exhausting as usual.  I told my PT guy that after my run on Saturday morning my knee was feeling awful all day, and that walking up the stairs was painful, so we did the ultrasound treatment again last night.  He also recommended that maybe I should schedule another doctors appointment, and maybe get some Cortisone shots.  So we’ll see about that.

I was pretty negative going into last nights appointment, and didn’t really expect to run for more than a few minutes without pain, but I did 15 and only felt the beginning twinges the last 10 seconds or so.  The one thing I’m hating about PT, is how it has the ability to dictate my mood.  A good session and I’m usually pretty happy and excited, but after a bad one I’m so depressed and feel like I’m never going to get better and that I’m not healing at all.  Very frustrating.  Yesterday was the beginning of week 7 of treatments, and there is still no end in sight :(.

There was a general theme to my meals yesterday, so I took pictures of both lunch and dinner.

A leftover piece of grilled chicken, marinated in Italian dressing, with lettuce on a whole wheat wrap.

Yummy green bean casserole

And cheesy potato casserole.  All leftover from Sunday’s Mother’s Day BBQ.  By the time I showered after PT, it was almost 8:30 and I was hungry.  Cooking wasn’t going to happen, so dinner was more leftovers, haha.

This piece of chicken was marinated in BBQ sauce, and there was an addition of pasta salad for dinner.  My mom ate the same thing, so I think that about takes care of the leftovers.  Now I don’t know what I’ll eat for the rest of the week, but I’m sure I’ll figure something out.

I loved Dancing With the Stars last night, everyone did so good!  I especially loved Nichole and Derek’s 50’s Paso, they are so good.  It’s getting to the point now where I’m going to be sad to see anyone go.  I think it should be either Niecy or Chad, but for some reason my girl EA was in the bottom two last week.  So who knows what will happen.

The boyfriend is supposedly coming to visit this weekend, but I won’t believe it until he is actually in my house.  Especially since he is currently in Virginia with no travel plans scheduled yet.  So uh yeah, we’ll see about that.  And because this picture cracks me up, I’m leaving ya’ll with that today.

Look how much children love me, haha.  I maintain that he was just trying to get down to crawl after the cat, and really didn’t hate being in my arms that much, but whatevs.

Happy Tuesday!! Who’s excited for LOST tonight????!!!
