New York, New York!

Well the 5k on Saturday morning went pretty well.  It was windy and hilly, but I managed to finish in 28:08 for an 8:50 pace overall.  Our friends Jon and Nicole met us in CP and the four of us got ready to run together.  The first mile we pretty much all stuck together and wove in and out of the walkers and joggers pushing strollers, but about half walk through we had almost all separated.  I came up behind Jon and Nicole with about half a mile left and we ran it into the finish together.

After the race was over, Alex and I headed back to the East Village to shower and get ready for our day out on the town.  I was a horrible girlfriend this year and still hadn’t bought him a birthday present, so I said we could go shopping and he could pick out whatever he wanted.  Within reason that is.  Our shopping adventures took us to The Gap where Alex got two new pairs of jeans, and I picked up a pair of grey jeggings (um I have an addiction) and two long sleeve thermal shirts.  Then, unfortunately for my bank account, we ventured over to Nordstrom Rack where Alex found a winter coat that he decided he wanted for his b-day present and I fell head over in heels in love with a pair of 6 inch platform Stuart Weitzman heels that I am regretting not buying still till this very moment.  They were incredible, gorgeous, the perfect fit, and surprisingly comfortable, and the best part marked down to $139 from $375.  Insane.  It took absolutely every last ounce of my self-control to not buy those shoes.  Instead I just took pictures and continue to stare at them every now and again.

We picked up some beers after our day long shopping extravaganza and made it home by 4:00 to watch the Yankees game.  Alex actually cooked me dinner, haha he called it Bachelor Pasta Surprise, and it was very good.  Some cut up chicken sausage, angel hair pasta, and a box of cheesy vegetables, mixed together with some marinara sauce.  We tried to make some plans to go out, but ended up getting pretty drunk just sitting around on the couch, so after the Yankees game we made another booze run, picked up some vodka and settled in on the couch for the night watching the Phillies follow up the Yankees loss with one of their own.  Neither boyfriend or myself can remember exactly what time we called it a night, but my guess would be that it was sometime around 11:30 which was fine by me.

Yesterday morning we woke up and participated in one of my favorite Sunday activities.  Brunch!  We walked to Esperanto, a cute Brazilian place on 9th and Ave C and hung out on their steps for 20 minutes until they opened and were willing to seat us at 11.  Alex and I both ordered the Spanish omelet with Chorizo, peppers, onions, & Manchego cheese, and served with home fries.

Oh, and don’t forget the mimosa to wash it all down.  For some silly reason, boyfriend didn’t want his mimosa so I got to drink both.  Both the omelet and the mimosa were delicious and I was very satisfied after our meal.

We had just enough time after brunch to walk back to the apartment, grab our jerseys and head out to Brother Jimmy’s in Union Square to watch some football games.  While watching the Eagles destroy the Falcons, we partook in some pitchers of Bud Light and good old Southern BBQ.  Alex ordered the Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwich and I had some Buffalo Wings, which were just the way I like them.  Not too saucy or spicy, but perfectly flavored.  It was nice to switch up our normal football watching bar from Finnerty’s to Bro J’s and people watch and see a different crowd, although we of course made an appearance at Finnerty’s when the 49ers game started at 4.

Sadly we had to go back to the apartment at the half so I could pack up and get ready to head to Penn Station to catch my 7:00 train, which I almost missed.  The L train took forever to arrive at the 1st Ave stop, and by the time I switched from the L to the A and arrived at 34th Street, I had to sprint off the subway, through Penn Station and onto my NJ Transit train home.  I literally jumped on board as the doors were closing and had to walk through a few cars before I even found a seat.  I made it home by 8:30 and was able to catch a majority of the Phillies game.

I was exhausted, and ended up going to bed before the end of the game, but was excited to see that they had won when I woke up this morning.  The Yanks play game 3 tonight, and I’m really hoping it goes much better than games 1 and 2.  Let’s go Yankees! How was everyone else’s weekend? I’m seriously so exhausted right now.  Sigh Monday.

Friday Fun

I made the 4:53 train out of Hamilton to NYC on Friday afternoon, and arrived in a very (not the) windy city.  Wind gusts for Friday night and today are forecast to be up to 50 mph.  Awesome!  The train wasn’t too crowded, and was a double decker new one, so I listened to some Carrie Underwood and took care of some paper work during my ride.  Unfortunately when I was about 15 minutes outside the city, Alex sent me a BBM informing me that he was stuck at work late and wouldn’t be done by the time I got there.  Meh, whatever, no big deal.  I sat at the bar across the street from his apartment enjoying an Octoberfest and a Vodka and Club until he was finished.

Alex eventually made it home around 7:30 and collected me from the bar so that we could head to the apartment to make dinner.  I always complain that he never has any food in his house and we have to eat out for every meal, so he went grocery shopping on Thursday and actually picked up stuff for us to have!  Dinner last night was marinated chicken, green beans, sweet potatoes, and rice.

Everything was delicious, and we watched the Yankees suck it up for the first 7 innings before staging the most amazing come back in the 8th.  We kept it fairly low-key last night since we are running a 5k in Central Park this morning, and watched the end of the baseball game in bed.  Boyfriend actually passed out before the game was over, I’m surprised my screaming didn’t wake him up haha.

Yesterday Lee asked what kind of shirt I was wearing with my jeggings, and I said I would post a picture of my outfit if I remembered.  So, here it is.

Long-sleeve t-shirt from the GAP, DSW Chinese Laundry boots, and jeggings from the Limited.  I liked this shirt with them because it was a little bit longer and slightly loose.  Alright, well I’m off to Central Park with the boyfriend, hopefully we don’t blow away haha.  I’m treating this 5k as part of my 5 mile training run scheduled for today, so I’m not trying to PR or anything, just going to have fun with Alex!

NYC Adventures

Hello, and happy Sunday to ya’ll!  How has everyones weekends been thus far?  The bf and I are having a fabulous time together and the fun continues today with a trip up to the Natural History Museum!  Let’s back up and talk about the rest of the weekend first though.

Friday, my train arrived in Penn Station at 5:33 pm and the bf actually met me at the station.  Typically I just hop on the subway right away and meet him at the apartment, so this was a nice surprise.  We relaxed around the apartment for a little while enjoying a cocktail, and then ventured out for the evening.  Our first stop was Hane Sushi right on the corner of 20th and 1st for dinner, but mostly their all day every day 2 for 1 drink specials :).  We started with an order of the pan fried pork dumplings to share, and they were fantastic.

Mastering the skill of using chop sticks is a huge accomplishment for me.  I’m very proud.  For my dinner, I went with my usual order of California Roll and the bf ordered a Philly Roll, California Roll, and Tuna Avocado.  I of course had to try a Philly Roll, but the salmon/cream cheese combo was just not my cup of tea so I stuck with my beloved California Rolls.

so much sushi!

get in my tummy!

The rest of the night involved a lot of cocktail drinking and some dancing at an event to support the children of some organization or something.  Haha I’m not exactly sure, we met up with one of the bfs friends and I got a wrist band and paid $5.  It was a lot of fun, but I was unsure of how I would feel the next morning when I woke up to run.  Thankfully, when I woke up Saturday morning I felt a lot better than expected and we made our way up to Central Park to run.

stretchy stretchy

The bf wasn’t very excited about this, but he toughed it out for me.  Thanks babe, you da best!  We ended up doing a few loops around the south end of the park, man some of those hills are tough!  Not very steep, but a long incline.  The bf stopped at 2.5 so I ran the last half mile alone which wasn’t nearly as fun.  I’m proud of myself for getting the run and my 15 miles in for the week though!

running away

This is when I left the bf to do the last .5 and that lady stepped right in front of me, and I had to jump on the ledge to dodge around her.  Crazy lady, watch where you are going!  The bf took some pretty pics while he was waiting for me.

tired, thirsty, and hot

There’s me walking back, I am very thirsty and hot.  After our run, we came back home to shower and get ready to go see Inception.  I loveddddd it!  Crazy good movie, and it is still blowing my mind today.  Anyone else see it?  I love movies that leave you thinking about them for hours and days after.  It was so long though, and I had to pee for the last hour of it at least, but couldn’t leave the theater for fear I would miss something important.

Alright, I’ve got to run the bf is starting to get impatient waiting for me!  Talk to you all later!
