I’m Ready to GO

Well good afternoon and happy Friday to you all!  I am happy to report that I am currently blogging from the breakfast bar in my mom’s kitchen and Pumpkin is snoozing in a big comfy chair.  We left Arlington at 7 pm last night and pulled into the driveway here in PA right before 10.  Not a bad drive at all.

How did Pumpkin fare?  Well, since I am a huge softy, she lasted about 2 minutes in her cat carrier before I opened it and let her out.  Once she was free to roam around the car she settled down immensely, and spent the entire car trip laying down on the back ledge by the rear windshield.  Much better than dealing with a crying cat for three hours.

Darren got into town around 3 pm yesterday, so he was at my front door about 10 minutes after I got home, and just missed helping me unload my car.  He was devastated.  We were both exhausted from our long days, him driving through the night from Wisconsin and me working all day and driving home, so we fell asleep in the middle of a movie before midnight.

This morning has been spent watching my work email for anything that may need doing (as of 12:43 pm there has not been anything) and counting down the hours until I can put my out of office message up.  I also accomplished some Christmas related tasks and got everyone’s presents wrapped.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here!  Look closely, see that little dog under there?  That’s not where I put it when Pumpkin and I got here.  Three guesses as to where the cat spent the night, haha.  She loves that damn stuffed dog.  Dar and I are all checked in for our 8:50 am flight tomorrow, and I am so excited.  I can’t believe that by this time tomorrow we will be in Jamaica for an entire week.

So far I have two posts scheduled to go up while I’m gone so that you guys don’t go into withdrawal from missing me.  I’m hoping to get at least one more written.  I probably won’t be on the internet at all while we’re gone 1) because I don’t feel like paying for wi-fi 2) because Darren will beat me if I’m constantly checking my email or twitter and 3) I just don’t want to be online, haha.  I’ll be sure to take a ton of pictures to share when we get back.  So, until then, BYE!

Pretty Much a Hero

So there I was, innocently packing every pair of shoes I own to prepare for my 10 days in Pennsylvania this month, when I heard a cat cry through my open window.  Pumpkin was sitting on the bed staring at me, so I knew it wasn’t her, I peered out the window into the backyard to try to see and I heard the cat “mew” again.  It was already dark though, and I couldn’t see anything.  The kitty outside was distressing Pumpkin, who kept jumping from the window, to the bed, to the window, etc and crying.

I pulled on my rain boots hustled out into the backyard with a flashlight, and almost immediately located the kitty in need.  On the roof of our shed.  Said kitty (I’m not sure if it was a boy or girl) was VERY happy to see me and immediately starting meowing at me.   I’ve seen this kitty wandering the neighborhood before, so I was pretty sure it wasn’t rabid and wouldn’t attack me, but none the less I proceeded with caution.  Pulled over a chair, climbed up on the railing, and stuck both arms up towards the roof to let the kitty sniff me.  It did, and let me pet it and then started nudging me to keep petting it.  I figured we were all good and friends at this point, so I reached up and grabbed it by the scruff of its neck and lifted it down into my arms.  This cat, was probably twice Pumpkin’s size and pretty hefty in my arms, but so cuddly.  Yay kitty all safe!

For your reference

Except Kelly was still standing on the slippery railing, now with a kitty in her arms.  I stepped down onto the wooden chair (also slippery) and the second both feet were on it, it went out from under me.  I managed to catch myself without dying or dropping the cat, but that was enough adventure for kitty for one night, and out of my arms it sprang.  Sigh, it was so fat and fluffy I wanted to keep it, oh well at least it was safely removed from our roof.  (Side note, this kitty had no collar or tags, but I’m pretty sure it’s an outdoor cat that belongs to one of my neighbors.  It hangs out in our yard a lot and across the street.)

Prior to my rescue of the kitty, Tuesday was really busy.  I was in work by 7 am for an 8 am meeting, squeezed in a workout before my second meeting at 11:15 and then was here for the rest of my life.  Not really, but that’s what it felt like.  Today should be much calmer and I just have to make it through one more day at work before I’m off to PA for my extended vacation.  I’m working from home on Friday, but hopefully there won’t be too much work to do.

Darren hits the road from Wisconsin to PA tonight, and I’m hoping he doesn’t have to drive through this supposed snow they’re forecasting.  At least he’s taking his truck.  If things go well, he’ll get to PA a little before I do tomorrow.  Yay!

Workouts
Monday: 45 minutes on the elliptical, abs
Tuesday: 30 minutes on the treadmill; 5 min warm-up, 2 min sprint 1 min recover for 20 min, 5 min cool-down; pyramid push-up workout

Happy Wednesday!

I Don’t Want to Talk About It

The game last night that is.  It’s not looking good, and I have hard time placing faith in AJ Burnett.  I miss Andy Pettitte and the days when Derek Jeter came to the plate and made magic happen.  The one other thing I will say is that the home plate umpire was not calling the strike zone nearly as tightly for Verlander as he was for all the Yankee pitchers.  It was bullshit.  Ugh, fingers crossed for a win tonight or the Yankees post season will look much like it did in 2006.

Yesterday after work I made it to the gym for a cardio workout. My 50 minutes on the elliptical flew by thanks to the interesting CNN coverage of Amanda Knox being released from jail. I don’t really have anything intelligent or meaningful to say about the case, so I’ll just leave it at that.

After my workout I headed home to make dinner, Shepherds Pie, and watch the game.  At least the dinner turned out well.  Mashed sweet potatoes with brown sugar make everything better, including Shepherds Pie, and devastating loses.  Anyway, thanks to said baseball game I was up until midnight and then couldn’t fall asleep.  Lovely.  It appears someone else had trouble sleeping, and has found a new spot to call her own.

For real cat?  I don’t even know what to say about this, except you are a freaking weirdo.  I let her sit there until I had to brush my teeth, then she got the boot.  Anyway I really like my outfit today, but since that mirror you see in the above picture is the only one I have it is impossible for me to take a photo of it.  In fact, in just trying to see what I looked like from head to toe, I ended up bashing my head into the ceiling while standing on the toilette.  It hurt.

Anyway, I know most of you hate the Yankees, but maybe send out a good luck wish for me tonight?  Later.
