Fun New Things

Sigh, and yet another Monday morning is upon us. I got home from NYC around 8:30 last night and immediately settled in on the couch to catch my favorite Sunday night shows like True Blood and Kourtney and Khloe. The rest of my New York visit with the boyfriend was fun and exciting.

Yesterday morning after I finished posting and updating you all on Friday and Saturdays activities, the boyfriend and I headed out to start our trek uptown to the Natural History Museum. We made a pit stop at the Union Square Whole Foods store for some lunch first. Shocking, I know, but this was actually my first time in a Whole Foods and I was not disappointed. I checked out both the salad and hot bar, but ultimately ended up getting a Turkey and Pesto Mayo sandwich. It was delicious, although now I think I’ve been bitten by the Whole Foods bug. Thankfully the closest one to me at home is still a little bit of a drive, so I probably won’t go completely broke. After a little subway misstep (taking the express A train all the way to 125th street instead of 81st) we finally made it to the museum.

Being a weekend, the museum was a little crowded, but we still got to see the exhibits we were looking forward to, the dinosaurs and gemstones :).

Chomp chomp!
After walking around for a good 3 hours, the bf and I were both exhausted and hungry again. Luckily we stumbled upon Shake Shacks newest location as soon as we exited the museum. The line was out the door, but we decided it was worth the wait.

I ordered the Shack Burger, fries, and a diet coke. The bf got the same and then a Black and White Concrete (milk shake) which was incredible.

I’d like fries with that please!
After eating, it was time to head back downtown so I could pack up my stuff and get right back on the subway and head to Penn Station. That’s always the worst part, saying goodbye and traveling home all alone. You would think after a year of doing this, it would get easier, but saying goodbye is always hard. At least I know that I’ll be seeing the bf every weekend this month and there won’t be any long 3 week breaks again.
Alright, well I’m off to read about what everyone else was up to this weekend. At least I always have that to occupy and entertain me on Mondays :). Have a great day everyone!

11 Hours Later

Hello from the Outer Banks!  I’m currently relaxing on the couch with a glass of champagne after a full day of beach lounging.  Don’t hate me.  We arrived yesterday at around 5 pm, a mere 11 hours after we left the house.  Yup, a drive that should take 8 hours at the most, took 11 hours.  At 1:00 we were 48 miles away, traffic was brutal.  I have never hated having a manual transmission so much in my life.  My whole left foot went numb.  Oh and my sister got rear ended and I got a speeding ticket.  37 in a 25, suck it stupid Duck cop.  Needless to say vacation got off to a rocky start, luckily once we FINALLY arrived we were able to get right to this.

Relaxing in our pool with some beers, and the bf creeping up behind me.

We spent most of the night like this until the sun went down, then we relocated to the hot tub.  No one felt like cooking last night so we ordered some pizzas and just vegged out.  It was the perfect first night to vacation, and after getting up at 4 am I was more than ready for bed at 9:30.

This morning, the sun woke us up at 6 am sharp, and I was pretty sure I was sleeping on the face of the sun.  The bf and I managed to roll over and sleep until 8:30, at which point I got up got him some coffee and declared it time to run.  I actually woke my sister up by declaring “rise and shine it’s exercise time.”  If looks could kill I would be a dead woman.  Despite their initial resistance we knocked out a great 3 mile run this morning before it got too too hot.  Knowing I was going to spend all day in my bikini was exactly the motivation I needed to get up and run.  We packed up some lunches, filled the cooler with beers and waters, and then made our way down to the beach.  The beach was amazing, not crowded, and the water was perfect.  I spent the majority of the day either laying on the blanket reading my book or sitting in my chair reading my book.

The bf and sister throwing the football around, and my cousin emerging from the ocean.  I saw sooo many dolphins today, which always makes me happy and kick my feet like an excited three year-old.  When the bf asked what I wanted to do tonight, I looked at him and just said “this”.  Nothing makes me happier.  I just prepped some regular and turkey burgers to grill to celebrate the nation’s birthday, so I gotta run and get to cooking them.  I hope everyone is having a great 4th of July weekend!  Enjoy the rest of your night!

Weather and the World Cup

Um, I’ve been sitting staring at the computer for a while now trying to think of something interesting to write about, I still haven’t come up with anything so bear with me.  When all else fails, write about the weather right?  Well we’re in the midst of a heat wave over here in the Northeast with highs in the mid 90s, but feeling like 100.  Because of this I will unfortunately be forced back inside a gym and onto a treadmill for the next few days.

Last night on the boring treadmill, I did a 5 minute walking warm-up followed by 3 miles at a .5 incline increasing my pace each mile.  Mile 1 at 6.2 mph, mile 2 at 6.5, and then mile 3 ranging from 6.7-8.0.  Then I walked for a few more minutes to cool down.  It was a good run, I tried to focus on keeping my stride how it is when I run outside and my shoulders relaxed and loose.  I definitely missed my Garmin and the outside.

I’m still feeling a little tenderness on the inside part of my right knee and the back outside area from when I hyperextended it stupidly two weeks ago.  So I think I will take a day off from the workouts tonight.  It doesn’t hurt to walk or run on, just when I press on a certain spot and when I bend my leg all the way so my heel is touching my butt.  I don’t think it’s anything that rest and ice won’t cure.

Dinner last night was burgers I had made with some leftover ground beef and pasta salad.

My burger with a slice of Provolone cheese, lettuce, ketchup, and mayonnaise.

Tri-color Rotini pasta with carrots, cucumber, peppers, cherry tomatoes and Mozzarella cheese.  After dinner, my sister and I sat on the couch watching the horrible programming that makes up summer television, Wipeout and Downfall.  I don’t know why, but I find Wipeout one of the most entertaining shows, I would really love to go there and play on the course.  I think it would be the most fun thing ever.  Downfall is a new trivia game where they drop crap off the side of a building.  I just played along and made fun of how much the contestants didn’t know.

I’m currently listening to the USA/Algeria game on my headphones at work, hopefully I’ll be able to control any cheers or screams.  GO USA!
