Special Delivery!

Oh hey Friday, so happy to see you again!  Thank you for coming so quickly (twss).  After not really having much to talk about yesterday, I’m happy to report I actually do today!  I’m not saying it’s anything exciting, but at least it’s something.  I finally made it to the post office yesterday to ship Alex his belated Christmas presents even though he apparently returned mine, which is fine I just thought we agreed to exchange no matter what, and then decided to buy the gift for myself.  My mom spilled the beans so I knew what it was anyway.

They should arrive in 5-10 days.  Hooray!  Just in time for winter and all the gross snow we seem to be getting.   After work I headed to the gym after work with the intention of hopping on the treadmill and getting a few miles in.  I just so happened to check the class schedule before leaving for the day and noticed a 5:45 Body Works plus Abs class.  It sounded similar to Body Pump, which I used to take at my old gym, so I figured I’d give it a shot.  70 minutes later, dripping with sweat and muscles quivering the class ended, and I decided that this might be a great thing to incorporate into my workouts.  The class uses a combination of free weights, body weight, stretching, and some cardio to give you a full body workout.  My favorite/least favorite part, crab crawls.  Not your typical crab crawl where you’re in a bridge position, for these you start standing up, bend over and place your hands on the ground, walk them out until you are in a push-up position, then walk your feet in while keeping  your legs straight.  Do this across the room, and then back, going backwards.  It’s intense, my shoulders have never burned so much.

This leads me to another question.  How do people work out in long pants and cotton t-shirts?  If it were allowed, and I wasn’t worried about rolls and unsightly jiggling, I would work out naked.  I seriously sweat so much, I think if I wore pants I would probably pass out or die.  I don’t get it.  Anyway, end of that tangent.

I then rushed home in hopes of still catching the roommates before they ate dinner, no such luck.  One was already in bed, the other packing to go away for the weekend.  Oh well, roommate taco dinner night turned into me eating tacos alone while watching Dexter.  At least I had a fun package waiting for me!

Homemade cookies from the kitchen of my favorite Chicago lady, Amy!  Of course I immediately ripped open the package and ate one, delicious.  I would send you some baked goods Amy, but you’re a better baker than me and it would just be a disappointment for you, haha.

It ended up not really snowing very much at all, a light, light dusting, so I am sitting at work right now.  Hopefully the day goes by quickly!  As of right now I have no weekend plans, anyone else doing anything good?

Shopping Spree!

Tuesday nights are my rest day, and last night instead of actually resting, my sister and I headed over to the mall to do some shopping.  Initially I wasn’t having any luck, found two shirts in the GAP and a sweater for $9 in Ann Taylor, but I finally scored some great stuff at The Limited.

I really found some great deals last night.  Sweaters at the limited were %30 off, pants were buy one get one $25 off, camis were buy one get one %50 off, and I opened a Limited card saving %15 off my entire order. Plus, apparently now that I am a card holder I can get any pants from there lengthened for free!  Which is awesome because most dress pants come with a 32 or 33 inch inseam and that is too short for me to wear heels with.  I really amped up my fall wardrobe, and I think I should be set for a while.

I was making fun of boyfriend the other day, and all his plaid and flannel, asking him why he insisted on dressing like a lumberjack.  This is all going on while I’m scrolling through the Sperry website and deciding that these are the rain boots I want.

Also keep in mind that my fall/winter wardrobe typically involves skinny jeans or leggings tucked into either my grey riding boots, brown boots, or Uggs.  He asked me why I insist on dressing like I’m going out to ride horses every day.  I responded, “Well I wish I were going out to ride horses!”  To which he replied, “Well I wish I were a lumberjack!”  Now, I’m just guessing here, but I don’t think he really wants to be a lumberjack.  Therefor, I win the discussion, equestrian look is much better than lumberjack ;).

Soooo yeah, a depart from the usual today, but sometimes I like to talk about fashion.  It is a beautiful fall morning here today, I actually wore a jacket, and looking to be a gorgeous day before rain returns tomorrow.  Happy Wednesday!

A Productive Rest Day

So yesterday I opted to follow my Sunday long run with a rest day, since I’ll be running three days in a row this week and I know my legs will appreciate it.  Since getting injured, I try to avoid running more than two consecutive days, but sometimes it can’t be avoided.  What’s a great activity to partake in on a rest day?  Shoe shopping!  I went back and forth about these boots, but ultimately decided that I would regret not buying them and I had a $20 off coupon, so they were practically free!  You can either wear them like they are shown in the picture, or fold the top over so they hit below the knee.  Pretty excited to wear them, too bad it’s going be back in the 90s this week, sigh.  I really went searching for some new black heels to wear to work every day, does anyone else have to replace theirs every year?  I really destroy mine I guess, but I didn’t find any that had a work appropriate heel height that I liked.  Guess that means I have to go back. 🙂

After shopping, I came home and got right to pulling dinner together.  I chopped up half a sweet potato into wedge slices, threw them in a plastic bag, seasoned with cinnamon and nutmeg, coated with olive oil, shook up the bag and spread them out on a baking sheet.  20 minutes later I had some delicious sweet potato wedges ready for eatin, and I partnered them with some leftover tortellini pasta salad from last week.

I really can’t believe that I didn’t eat sweet potatoes like this until this year, not only does it taste amazing, but it is seriously one of the best smelling foods to ever come out of my kitchen.  After dinner I watched the season premier of How I Met Your Mother, delightful as always, and then some of Dancing With the Stars.  I’ll catch the half hour that I missed later this week.  Rick Fox really surprised me, he did so good and I was really surprised by it.  So happy DWTS is back!

Can you see Pumpkin’s little face poking over the counter top?  Haha, Alex went to sit down to eat his leftovers Sunday afternoon and was immediately joined by the little baby.  She sat there next to him the whole time he was eating, just waiting for maybe a little piece of rib.  She’s too funny, for some reason she thinks she’s a dog and will beg for food, wait at the front door for you to come home, and always wants to sit on your lap.  Anyways she’s the best, and Alex and I both love her, which is amazing for him since he’s super allergic to her.  Also, in somewhat related news, I hate long distance relationships.  That is all.

Alright, happy Tuesday everyone.  Glee is back tonight and I am BEYOND excited, I love that show and I need some new Glee tunes to add to my running playlist.  Can’t wait!  Five miles on the training plan for tonight.  Unfortunately they will have to get done after I drop my car off at the dealership to get its sunroof fixed and annual maintenance done.  Have a great one!
