It was an emergency

Late yesterday afternoon while sitting at my desk, I was hit with the chocolate craving to end all chocolate cravings.  You all know me well enough by now to know this is unusual, as I typically would much rather take a bag of potato chips to the face than eat a cookie.  It’s not even that time of the month!  Anyway, since all I could think about was chocolate, dipped in chocolate, and then rolled in more chocolate, I figured it was a craving that HAD to be satisfied.  After one mention of my desperation, I was directed toward Picky Palate where I perused the various recipes for bars and brownies.

When I saw a link for Gooey Cookies and Cream Double Chocolate Cake Bars, I died and fell out of my chair.  A few clicks later, the recipe was printed, in my purse, and I was bolting out of work to the grocery store.  By 5:30 I was in my kitchen, apron on, and elbow deep in butter and Devils Food Cake Mix.  Yes, I made these before I even made dinner, priorities people.  It was a long 26 minutes while the baked.

I did manage to stuff a turkey sandwich down my gullet while waiting for these babies, but once they were out of the oven all bets were off.  I didn’t even wait for them to cool fully before I scooped some out with a spoon.  (Yeah, mine are no where near as bar like as the pictures on the recipe, but whatever they’re still awesome).  They are gooey and chocolaty, and just overall amazing.  It’s going to take all my willpower to not eat the entire tray tonight.  Chocolate craving satisfied, for now.

Thankfully I managed to do all 4 workouts in week two phase one this week, so I didn’t feel too bad for indulging.  You know what I think is weird that I noticed yesterday?  My left shoulder is significantly stronger than my right, and I’m right handed.  Although I am left handed when it comes to some things, like playing pool, weird I know.  Just a fun fact for you guys on this Friday.

This weekend will hopefully hold some snow, although I think we’re just supposed to get freezing rain, stupid, crafting, and a “date” with Darren.  We’re thinking about being all corny and watching a movie together while Skyping.  Yup.  I also want to make a Valentine’s Day wreath I saw on Pinterest.  I filed my taxes this morning, now here’s to hoping the gov gives me back some money in a timely fashion. Happy Weekend!

Fun (Messes) in the Kitchen

Heyoooo!  Happy Thursday friends! I was too lazy to post yesterday, I’m on vacation after all, so today’s will probably be extra long.  First though, I have a HUGE favor to ask y’all.  My friend Molly and her fiance have entered a contest to win a lighting package for their wedding and she needs votes.  It’s super easy, just click here  click on the photo of Molly and Matt (the third one) and like the photo.  Do it.  Pretty please.

Hokay moving on.  Thanks to boredom and my mom’s awesome kitchen, I spent a lot of time cooking and baking on Monday.  First up was the delicious looking Mexican Lasagna Jess posted about twice so far.  She was tempting me to do it, my sister begged, and I complied.  You know what, it was freaking awesome.  I’m not quite sure how many people the recipe was supposed to feed, but on Monday it fed three.  I followed her recipe pretty close, except I skipped the cilantro and mixed some sour cream in with the ground turkey mixture.  Ya know, cause it needed some more calories :).

Then, because I was still bored, I tackled homemade Cinnamon Rolls.  From scratch, including the dough.  It was my first time with dough.  It was interesting.

They are nowhere near all the same size, but you can’t really tell that when topped with the cream cheese glaze and they all taste good, so whatevs.

While Monday was kind of low-key and boring, Tuesday was the complete opposite.  My sis, Dar, and myself were up and out the door running errands before noon and didn’t wrap up until almost 4 pm.  We hit the mall, Dick’s, the liquor store, the beer distributor, and a local restaurant to pick up a gift card.  We celebrated the end of the long day with dinner at our favorite BYOB, Duck Sauce.  We ate enough food to feed a large country, and ended our evening with some adult beverages with Darren’s family.  I finally managed to drag myself into bed around 1 am.

I love the holidays, but damn are they exhausting.  That’s all for today.  Peace out, and don’t forget to vote!

Coooooooookies!

So Amy sent me cookies (these cookies, I think, but there was more than choc chips in there), that jerk, because cookies were definitely not part of my “debloat before wedding weekend” plan.  Just kidding Amy, you’re not a jerk.  However, they were amazing, and I tore into the box the second I saw it and stuffed a cookie in my face.  Actually, the eating of the cookie took about 5 minutes because they were the size of my head.  Dear Amy, you rock, thank you for the oreo center surprise.  I gave one to Adrienne also, and then we sat in a cookie coma while the sugar took its hold.  Let’s just call it packing fuel.

Speaking of packing, I am in complete shock that I managed to fit all of my stuff in a carry on bag, and it wasn’t even that difficult.  The hardest thing was trying to find small containers for lotion, shampoo, and conditioner.  Also, I can’t bring a razor on board can I?  I had Dar run out and buy me one last night, because I figured that was a no.  Here’s to hoping nothing gets confiscated.

Another fun fact, I am most definitely the worst girlfriend ever, because I got too distracted by Mad Men last night to shave my legs.  Soooo I plan on doing that after arriving in Wisconsin tonight, uuuh, oops?  Darren didn’t understand why it was so important to have razors on hand for Thursday night, but it’s because I’m lazy, and obsessed with a TV show.

Yesterdays workout was nothing special, 45 minutes on the elliptical while watching Sex and the City.  That’s just one of those shows that I will watch no matter how many times I’ve seen the episode.  I threw in some stretching after, because much to my physical therapists dismay I’ve been slacking on it, and called it a day.

My flight is at 6:01 tonight, and let’s hope that for once this year I’ll take off without an absurd delay, because it is yet to happen.  The weather looks good in both places, so hopefully there are no problems.  Hopefully I’ll check in over the weekend, but I make no guarantees.  See ya from the mid-west!
