The Weather is as Drunk as I Was

So I ended up bailing out of my interval run last Wednesday night when my hip started hurting 1.3 miles into it. I took Thursday – Monday completely off and hopped on a treadmill tonight to slowly ease into a run and see how I felt. The verdict? 3.12 miles in 30 minutes without any popping/grinding in my right hip whenever I landed on that foot, so we’ll call it a success for now. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow. I’ve decided that if I can’t do the runs I need to do this week that I’m probably going to have to pull out of Cherry Blossom on April 6, keep your fingers crossed for me that it doesn’t come to that.

I had a fabulous weekend that mainly revolved around the 3rd annual St. Paddy’s “Kegs” and Eggs Party that my roommates and I started throwing back in 2012. The party starts at breakfast time and goes until the last person passes out. It’s always a delightfully drunken time where people in their late 20s and 30s try to pretend they’re still in college, and we once again seriously lucked out with the weather, especially after this winter. 70 and sunny, FTW!

Friends!

My shirt says “I Can’t Keep Calm I’m Irish” because… duh

We had some college buddies come in from out-of-town, which is always fun, because who doesn’t still love a big sleepover? I woke up on Sunday at 5:45 am, hurting, because someone (ahem it was not me) could not remember how their night ended and wanted me to tell them. This person is lucky I kind of like them, or I might have murdered them, or thrown up on them (ironically enough this almost happened a few hours later anyway, oops). There was more sleep to be had eventually, thank the lord. LUCKILY (read that with all the sarcasm) it started snowing on Sunday night and when I woke up on Monday morning there was about 10 inches on the ground so I got another day in the house to recover.

there were only clues left that it was nice enough to party outside the day before

If it snows one more time, I’m cashing in my frequent flier miles and heading to Mexico. Who’s coming with me?

Winter, Part 3000

snowThis is happening again. Supposedly we’re getting another 5-9 inches today, so that’s fun. March, you are drunk. I’m working from home, because I’d rather not risk my life trying to do a commute that takes me 45 minutes on a good morning.

Prior to the 400,000 winter storm of the year, it was actually a pretty nice weekend. I got out for my long run on Saturday afternoon when it was a lovely 37 degrees (feels like 32) and partly cloudy. I wore my new favorite Nike capris and a lightweight long sleeve and was perfectly comfortable. Well, until I got in the shower and realized my sports bra chaffed my poor underboobs. You’re not livin’ till you head out for an evening with bandaids on your boobs.

3:1

I’m pretty happy with my overall consistency pace wise on this run, as I have a tendency to shall we say “blow my load” in the early miles and then die at the end. I hopped on the W & OD Trail, which conveniently runs behind my neighborhood, and headed down towards The Village of Shirlington, did a loop through there and around the dog park, and came back. I particularly love when I’m running through Shirlington and get hit with clouds of people’s cigarette smoke. Blech.

Mile 7 was basically all rolling hills, which is terrible when you’re tired and butt is on fire and you just want to be back at your house to lay and die on the sidewalk. I’m heading out to Chicago! on Friday to hang out with this chick, and I think I’ve convinced her to do a long run with me. Amy, it’s supposed to be 8 but I won’t be mad if we don’t do that many :).

I know I’m a little ( a lot) crazy, but I’ve really enjoyed my long runs in the cold and I swear on all things unholy if it is hot and humid on April 6 I will lose my mind and throw an immature temper tantrum. The end.

Half Way Point

Happy Friday and more importantly happy last freakin day of February! The end of February is apparently not marking the end of winter weather since it is cold as shit out there again, and there might be another storm on Monday. Basically, this is how I felt this morning:

unnamedIt’s been a pretty standard week over here, workouts, happy hour, work, blah, blah, blah. On Tuesday Kathryn and I ran “together” (on treadmills next to each other) before heading over to Buffalo Wild Wings for happy hour. She is fast and kicks my butt and makes me feel really slow as I’m plodding along at a 9:20 pace while she hauls ass at a 7:47. So yeah, 3 miles @ 9:21 pace followed by abs and beers and chicken nachos. They go together.

sometimes (most times) I got to happy hour after running without showering, it's fine

I’m surprised they were even willing to stand close enough to me to take a picture, Kathryn actually showered because she is a clean person and I really just don’t care. That’s probably why she has a boyfriend and I have a dog. Wednesday it snowed, because of course it snowed, three inches during the morning rush hour so I made the call to switch my WFH day from Thursday to Wednesday and not deal with the awesome DC area traffic caused by precipitation. That also meant my rest day got switched, so even though I sat around in running clothes all day (because they are warm) I did not run.

Yesterday was the weekly speed workout. 1 mile warm-up at 6 mph, 32 min of 2 min hardish (7 mph) 2 min easy (6 mph), 1 mile cool-down.

photo 2 (2)I might as well have gone swimming because I was so sweaty at the end I looked like I’d jumped in a pool. It was a hard workout, but I was surprisingly not dead at the end which is leaving me hopeful for the 7 miler planned for tomorrow. Blech. Planning on doing some light upper body weights and core stuff today, but we’ll see if I actually make it outside and over to the gym.

Five weeks to go! Holy crap… that’s soon.
