Not Even Trying

If you live in this area, you know that rain + early holiday travel = not good things for traffic.  Last night at 5 pm when I was trying to leave work, I pulled up the traffic.com app on my phone (a must have I think) and noticed that every road on my dashboard had traffic at an 8 and building.  Delays ranged from 18-25 minutes for a 4 mile stretch, and I realized it would take me well over two hours to get home.  Instead of wasting gas and getting annoyed, I made the executive decision to park my ass at the Dogfish Head Alehouse bar and wait it out.

If you follow me on Twitter, you know I’ve expressed concern about eating alone in restaurants before.  They stem mostly from the fact that I don’t like people, and don’t really want to have to make conversation with strangers.  I don’t care enough.  Last night I talked to strangers and lived to tell about it, haha, I even got a free beer.  It wasn’t so bad, and I ended up sitting there until just before 8 when traffic finally let up enough to drive home.  I hope traffic tonight isn’t nearly as bad, but once again, it’s raining.

Prior to treating myself to a spontaneous dinner out I managed to squeeze in a lunch time work-out.  45 minutes on the elliptical followed by abs and stretching.  My hair, desperately needs washing today.  The whole blow drying the sweat out of it only works for so long.  Today I’m supposed to participate in a Cross Fit work-out with two other co-workers, so we’ll see how that goes.

I’m really hoping to get out of the office by 2 tomorrow so that I can start my journey up to Philadelphia for the Thanksgiving holiday.  I have mini pumpkin cheesecakes to bake and birthday drinks to have with my sister.  Judging by the state of the parking garage this morning, I’m thinking most people have already started to take off, so hopefully we get out early.

Try not to think of today as a Tuesday, technically it’s Thursday! Have a good one!

  1. Yeah, I push the non-washing of the hair a few days too many sometimes too, it’s not pleasant for anyone. Even baby powder can’t save me then.
And I’m so proud of you for going to the bar solo! Someday I’ll get there… someday. PS I see you chose to Cross-Fit it out 🙂

  2. I will go nuts if I don’t get to leave the office early tomorrow. Because yeah- our parking garage is a ghost town right now. Grrr…

    And yay cross-fit! :p

  3. Traffic sucks. I work 15 minutes away from my house, and I’m pretty sure if it was any farther I would lose my mind every day.

Also, I’m really happy to know that someone else just blow dries the sweat out of their hair. I do that all the time. 🙂

  4. haha blow drying the sweat out of your hair. I love it 🙂 Hopefully we all get out a little early tomorrow to travel home! Have a good turkey day 🙂

  5. Sounds like you made the best decision. Especially if you got a free beer.
I’m leaving the office at 3:30 tomorrow to fly home, so if they let out early I’ll just be chilling in the office until my cab comes. Fun. I guess I could go drink downstairs..

  6. Friday for me!!!! I’m officially on 5 day weekend and sooooooooooooo excited to nap right now haha.

  7. Dude I hear you! There was a 6 car accident on the highway when I was driving home. It took FOREVER but I couldn’t get off the highway to just chill somewhere. No fun waiting it out!

  8. I love eating alone. I people watch and I talk to strangers all the time. I figure bar strangers are okay. LOL! Have a safe (AND FUN) trip home!

  9. Traffic is going to be a nightmare tomorrow (er…today) I am just going to take deep breaths, count to ten and try not to kill anyone.
