Wedding Pics of People You Don’t Know

Hello, I’m back!  Did you miss me?  I landed back in DC at 11:20 last night, and wanted to cry when my alarm went off at 6 am this morning.  However, here I am back at work with a crap load of work to do.  The wedding weekend in Wisconsin was beautiful and a lot of fun, and I can’t even tell you how many times I had to answer the questions, “When are you guys getting engaged?” and “When are you moving here?”  Hint, it was a lot, haha.

I arrived in Milwaukee Thursday night at 7:11 pm without a hitch, and Darren and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Carrabba’s before heading back to his house to watch a movie.  I made it about an hour in before I passed out… oops.  Friday, we spent the morning at the mall buying my love, summer appropriate dress clothes before hitting the road for the resort on Lake Geneva.

After getting all checked in, we made our way down to the pool to hang with the other members of the wedding party who also arrived a day early, before they had to leave for the rehearsal.

After wedding duties were done for the day, the group of us headed out to a nearby bar for a few drinks before calling it a night.  The wedding ceremony was at 11 on Saturday morning, and I didn’t want to be dealing with a hangover.  Dar was up, showered, dressed, and out the door by 9 am, leaving me the whole room to get ready.

The ceremony was a full Catholic mass, lasting about an hour, with the only misstep being when the bride said she would take her groom as, “my wife”.  We all got a good laugh.

There was a 5 hour gap between the end of the ceremony and start of cocktail hour, during which the bridal party was gone taking pictures.  I had no idea what to do with myself, so I took a nap, and it was glorious.  I was ready to party when 5 pm rolled around.

The reception got underway at 6, with a lovely sit down dinner, and dancing commenced as soon as the speeches wrapped up, and the plates were cleared off the tables.  Dar and I were on the dance floor most of the night, and partied our butts off until midnight when the reception closed down.

Yesterday, I was feeling a little under the weather, but when Darren suggested we spend the afternoon before my flight looking at engagement rings, I instantly perked up.  I swear, he actually suggested that.  We spent an hour and half in a store learning about diamonds, well Darren was learning about diamonds, I was just trying on every ring in the store.  The last ring I tried on was the one we both ended up loving, despite it being completely different from what I thought I wanted.

Not engaged, just trying it out!

That center stone is a little bigger than what I would actually get, and it’s just sitting in the setting, but you get the idea.  Darren left the store with lots of papers, and feeling much more informed about the whole diamond buying process.  I left the store missing the sparkling piece of jewelry, haha.

My next visit with my love isn’t until October sometime, no actual dates are set yet, which made saying goodbye last night a little more difficult.  It’s easier knowing exactly how many days/weeks it will be until you see each other again.  He’s thinking about making a trip out on what would have been our 10 year anniversary.  It all depends on work though, so we’ll see what happens.

Anyway, fun weekend, lots of drinking, I’m really tired.  Off to catch up on what you all were up to!

That ring is beautiful, I tend to like the simple classic rings, which is the opposite of what I thought I would like when I was younger.

    2. Did the bride wear her wedding dress to the reception 5 hours later??
    3. I LOVED the dress you had on!
    4. Love the engagement ring you picked out. It is beautiful, classic and something you will still love in 20, 30 and even 50 years down the road.

  6. Glad it was a good weekend. Even if you didn’t get to see me… lol

I really do love the bangs! Very cute.

  7. Nice ring! I was breezing through the post at first, saw the rock, and was like, whaaa!

Sidenote – admittedly I am not religious at all, but there is something sort of off-putting about getting hitched in front of a guy dying by crucifixion. Am I the only one who feels weirded out by this?

  8. Ummm . . . how awesome is it that you got to look at engagement rings? Was it the funnest thing ever?

I LOVE the one you picked btw. Its gorgeous, and still will be in 50 years.

  9. I love cute flubs during wedding ceremonies. Looks like an awesome weekend! Hope that gorgeous ring finds its way back to you in the near future. 😉

  10. Even though we don’t know the people- pictures still looked good! And I too, love the hair! I ended up with a dream cut diamond (similar to princess cut) instead of a pear or marquis which were always my favorites- it’s amazing how trying them on really makes a difference!

  11. I ended up with a very similar ring when I was engaged even though I really didn’t think I’d want it. That is gorgeous! Glad you had a good time!

  12. I love your hair! It’s so pretty! That dress is REALLY cute too! Where did you get it?!

I love that style ring so much. It’s very similar to my engagement ring. I am big on the circle diamond with little diamonds around the band. I think it’s so elegant looking 🙂

  13. “My wife” that’s too funny. They’ll always remember it and smile though. Glad you had a great weekend. I think you’ll be getting a visit before October though. A surprise proposal?!

  14. SWEET! I love wedding pictures of people I don’t know!!!! J/k…but you looked lovely, where did you get your shoes? I have been looking for a good nude shoe.

Way back when I was on the marriage path I went ring shopping and ended up with something completely different than I thought I wanted too…rings look different on your finger than they do in your head!

  15. Yay, new blog friend in DC! I was at a wedding this past weekend too!

  16. HOLY COW!!! Are either of you going to move to each other??!? What’s the next step? I love first love stories….

  17. […] is driving me insane.  It’s bad enough we already picked out the style ring I want.  He’ll bring it up, and then naturally I start asking questions like, “Well do […]
