Ass, Kicked

Happy Tuesday fools, what’s going on?  I am so sore today that I almost couldn’t get out of bed this morning, and it’s all thanks to a new workout I tried yesterday.  My bff Jill is super sexy, no seriously Men’s Health uses her as the fitness model for their “Today’s Exercise” videos on their website, and the other day we got to chatting.  She knows I’ve gotten really into lifting lately, and she started telling me all about this workout she’s been doing that has been kicking her ass.  Naturally I was curious, and inquired about it.  She told me to download the Men’s Health Lite iPhone app, and check out The Spartacus Workout.  It was free, so I did, and started reading what it was all about.

To create the Spartacus workout, we chose 10 exercises that collectively work every part of your body, and then placed each at a 60-second station, in order to challenge your heart and lungs as well as your muscles. The final product: A high-intensity circuit that’s designed to burn away fat, define your chest, abs, and arms, and send your fitness levels soaring. So you’ll sculpt a lean, athletic-looking body—while getting in the best shape of your life.

Ten exercises, 60 seconds?  Sounds like my kind of thing, so yesterday in the gym I set myself up in the group fitness room and got to work.  Holyyyy shit, did I get my ass kicked.  I’ve never worked so hard in a short 25 minute time period (uh yeah I only went through twice because I thought I was going to die), I was sweating and breathing harder than after a 5 mile run, and my legs?  Jello.  It was awesome.  For the first set I went through with 12 lb weights, and then downgraded to 10 for the second because I thought my legs were going to fall off.

Today my ass and thighs are burning, and I’m not sure what the hell I’m going to be able to do in the gym.  I sent the workout to Dar who also tried it yesterday, and he even said it kicked his ass.  I plan on trying to do it two times a week instead of my usual lifting and we’ll see what happens.  If yesterday and how I feel today are any indication though, I think it’s going to be great.  Oh and I somehow managed to pedal along on the elliptical for 15 minutes after the workout.

I arrived home last night to the fuses in the upstairs all blown, meaning my room AC was off all day, and it was 98 degrees outside, yaaay.  I quickly fixed it and planted myself in the living room watching Season 1 of Mad Men until the upstairs cooled off.  I wish it were appropriate to drink in the middle of the day at work, work would be a lot more tolerable then.  Anyway, finished the first disc of the first season, and now just need to send it back to Netflix for disc 2.

Completely random, but is there anything better than putting a fresh pair of contacts in your eyes, because I think not.

  1. I read about the Spartacus workout several weeks back. It scared me. I’m glad I finally know someone who’s tried it. Maybe next month?

  2. How about not wearing contacts? That usually feels pretty spectacular.

  3. I agree with you on a fresh pair of contacts. I never change my contacts as frequently as I should. So when I do, it’s like I can actually see clear again. 🙂

  4. Mad Men is hands down my favorite show. I want to live that life. Why aren’t there more couches and crystal decanters of booze in the corporate world now?
That workout sounds crazy. I may have to try it.

  5. I have heard such good things about Mad Men…I need to get on that bandwagon! 🙂

  6. I’ve heard of the Spartacus workout! However, am way too intimidated to try it…. yet… lol

I’ve learned not to go up to my room until bedtime over the summer. Being up in the “attic” is quite a heated experience… I’ve gotten used to the sound of two fans going at once as I attempt sleep. Life is hard… lol

    • It’s intense not gonna lie, but I like it because it can be over in 10, 20, or 30 minutes depending on how ambitious you are that day.

  7. Ok, now I want to try that workout, but I’m pretty convinced I’d wind up in a heap on the floor. Crying.

  8. Mad Men totally made me want to drink more. I found myself drinking at weird times, like in the middle of the day when I’m by myself (not at work, of course, that’d be bad). But I totally wanted to start a regular cocktail hour and maybe start smoking cause it looked so cool.

Such a great show, I think you’ll enjoy it!

  9. Oh Mad Men. Where liquid lunches and off-color humor are not only acceptable but encouraged. But there’s John Hamm, so I mean… *Swoon*

  10. The workout sounds killer. Steph turned me on to the New Rules Of Lifting For Women and it’s killing me!

    • Is it bad I’m boycotting reading that book because it seems like the cool thing to do right now? Haha, I am interested in it though.
