Today is my Thursday

Short weeks make me smile, even if it really doesn’t even seem that much shorter.  Today is like my Thursday since I have off Friday.  I’m headed back up to NYC tomorrow after work so that Alex and I can fly out bright and early (our flight is at 6:45) Friday morning for Iowa.  Alex’s brother is getting hitched on Saturday, and he is the best man so we have tons of fun wedding adventures on the schedule for this weekend.  I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of freaking out about our flights.  We couldn’t find an affordable direct flight so we have layovers both going there and coming home, with only like 45 minutes between one flight landing and the other taking off.  Please keep your fingers crossed that none of our flights are delayed and we don’t miss our connections!  Oh, and can you still check in online if you don’t have a printer to print your boarding pass?

After skipping yoga last week, I really didn’t want to go last night but I made myself and I’m glad I did.  It felt really great to get in the stretching and body weight work, although the room was absolutely freeeeeeeezing.  I had on a long sleeve shirt and pants for the first five minutes or so.  That’s what I hate about cool days during a summer that has been hotter than hell, the ac still pumps full blast even though it was only 65 out.  Anyway, definitely feeling it in the muscles today that I took a week off.

After yoga I came home and made dinner for me and my mom.  We had some peppers in the fridge that needed to get used, so I made my Zucchini Pepper Basil Pasta.

  • 1 zucchini
  • 3/4 – 1/2 of red, yellow, and green pepper
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • big handful of spinach
  • handful of basil
  • 1 jar of Vodka sauce
  • Topped with Parmesan

I used a whole 16 oz bag of Organic Whole Wheat Penne pasta and a jar of organic Vodka sauce, and it was delicious.  I wanted to make enough to enjoy leftovers for the rest of the week, and was quite successful.  So yeah, you already know what I’m having for dinner tonight :).

Tonight I have to pack, and you all know how much I enjoy that.  I’m trying to avoid the overpacking this trip since not only will I be lugging crap on a train, in a subway, and through the streets of NYC but also into a cab, through an airport, and then back home again.  Good thing I’ve been doing all this yoga to strengthen my arms.  I’m actually making a list of things I need, this is what I’ve got so far.  Anything stand out that I might be missing?

Something comfy and warm for the plane
Rehearsal dinner outfit (BCBG skirt and J Crew t-shirt)
Gold flat sandals

Clothes for running
Shorts and a top for the day
Dress for wedding (BCBG dress)
Clean unmentionables (something I always seem to forget for some reason)
Shoes that I’m still trying to decide on

Something comfy for the plane ride home
More clean unmentionables

Other essentials
Contact case/Solution
Hair Dryer
Curling Iron
Shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, body wash, toothbrush
Hair Brush (oddly enough the thing I forget to pack the most)
Hair Spray

Ok, so what am I forgetting?  I always, always forget something.

  1. Cell phone charger!! I am always afraid I am going to forget it and then not be able to use my cell phone.

  2. Ugh… flying gives me anxiety- not really the flying part, but everything leading up to it…

I’d say pack more unmentionables. YOu can never have enough. Seriously! :p

  3. You have a fun weekend coming up!!! I’ll cross my fingers that all of your flights work out!!

  4. Love your blog!! I travel a LOT and always have crazy short connections. Suggestion, if you guys realize that it is taking a long time to taxi to the gate, you are near the back, etc etc…let the flight attendants know that you need to make a connection. Sometimes they let people with connections exit first. I always wear pumas on the plane because I often have to run (with suitcase and huge purse in tow). I am a sweaty mess but then I count this as my work out ha. Last thing (sorry I ramble), be sure to pack or wear any jewelry you want for the wedding. Have fun!

    • I will DEFINITELY do this if we are running late. In fact I’ll probably remind the fly attendant 438493 times and then they’ll hate me. Packed sneaks to wear instead of flip flops!

  5. Bring lots of clean underwear. I always wind up packing double what I need, but its nice to have options. 🙂

I had a ridiculous ten minute layover once. It was my first time flying so I didn’t know any better. My first flight was 5 minutes late and I had to run from one end of the airport to the other. It sucked.

  6. Hooray for Thursday Wednesdays! I can’t WAIT for Labor Day.

I usually just throw 5 bikinis in a bag and call it a day. I’d rather go shopping when I get there then lug a gigantic bag through the airport. 😉

    • Labor Day I get to travel for yet ANOTHER wedding. God why can’t people communicate and not have their weddings 3 weeks in a row?

  7. Ooh, Iowa! Have you ever been? My favorite part about the state is a gas station chain called Kum & Go. Shit you not. I really shouldn’t offer packing advice because I am a horrible, horrible overpacker, but I did see a great video about how to save space in your suitcase by rolling up each item of clothes. It’s here: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2010/05/06/business/businessspecial/20100506-pack-ss.html

    • I have in fact never been to Iowa. I’ve been to Wisconsin though, I picture them looking the same? Wow, that is some impressive packing. I’ve tried rolling stuff before, I felt like it didn’t make a difference, apparently I’m doing it wrong. Although I still think I have way to many hair products and tools to pack in a carry on.

  8. Razor, sunglasses, chargers – I always forget those things. I’m sure you’re planning to take running shoes too, right?

Hope the packing goes well and that you have a good trip!

In reponse to the comment above, we totally have Kum & Go’s in OKC, and it trips me out every single time I see one.

    • I have asked the front desk for a razor countless times when traveling. They are the worst. Hahaha Kum & Go? I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for one.

  9. I hope that you’re flying experience is better than mine was when I flew to Florida, sat on the runway for an hour and a half (the entire time stressing about my connection) only to land in NC and find out my connection has been delayed 2.5 hours. I know you are aware of this haha but it still haunts my dreams. I wish I could come home and sit on your bed while you pack!!

  10. Jewelry and purfume! Two key things for fancy occassions :).

  11. cold yoga room? that sounds strange. that sucks about the layovers because you never freaking know with travel plans. Have a great trip!!

  12. That pasta sounds wonderful!!

Lucky girl that today is your Thursday!! 🙂 Have a great trip!!

  13. Have a great trip!! Don’t forget your chargers.. I just forgot my cell phone charger and I’m kicking myself for it!

  14. Packing… i actually enjoy it! but i’m a list freak. must. have. a. list. Even then, i still forget stuff sometimes!
