It’s my Birthday!

Well not officially until Sunday, but it is the start of my birthday weekend!  I just have 8.5 hours of work to get through, and then I’m headed to the beach to meet up with my friends who are mostly already there.  Jerks.  Anyway, I’m really not a fan of the whole office birthday celebration thing where they come over with a cake singing Happy Birthday, so I requested bagels instead of cake for mine.  I’m currently enjoying my egg bagel with cream cheese :).

This morning I was running around like a crazy person, because as always I waited until the last possible minute to pack.  I also could not find my straightening iron anywhere, and as a person with naturally curly hair in the middle of a July heat wave that is unfortunate.  I’m pretty sure I left it sitting on the counter in the bf’s house in VA.  Sad.  So I’m packed, but I only have a strapless bra, I forgot my waterproof camera, my vodka (the biggest tragedy), and I’m sure I have the most random outfits imaginable.  Oh and don’t forget the frizzy hair.

As well as bagels, my work girlfriends and I are going out to lunch today to celebrate also.  Hopefully the work day goes by very quickly!  Here’s my birthday balloon.

Last night I again dragged myself to the gym to run on the treadmill, I’m beginning to think I may never be able to run outside again :(.

  • 3.5 miles (3.3 without .2 warm-up)
  • 33:30 (30:30 walked first 3 minutes)
  • 9:34 pace (9:15 pace without warm-up)

That brings my total mileage for this week to 11 miles, I was definitely capable of running more, but I’m now scared to not follow the 10% increase per week rule, and I only did 9 last week.

Confession Time

I am terrified to push myself when running now.  While running is never easy, all three of my runs this week barely left me out of breath at the end.  I know I can run faster and further than I am, but I am scared to death of getting hurt again so I play it safe.  Pretty soon I’m going to have to step out of my comfort zone and really start half marry training, but how do I stop being afraid?  The last thing I want to happen is to again have to drop out of a race I’m signed up for.  Sigh, when will I trust my body again?

Weirdly, after my workout I never actually got hungry for dinner.  I wanted to drink some wine though, so I figured I should eat something.  A tuna melt was the only thing that sounded appetizing.

I added a little too much mayo and relish, woopsies, but it still tasted good.  Along with my sandwich I had three glasses of Malbec while I watched a Bethenny Getting Married marathon.  I have no idea how I have not watched this show before, I was laughing so hard I was almost crying.  She’s hilarious.

Alright everyone, have a great Friday and a fabulous weekend!  I’ll be back on Monday with my birthday weekend recap!

  1. totally feel the same way. I am so afraid of getting hurt again. But — I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Its a hell of a lot better than pushing to quickly and then paying for it. I think if you just make gradual increases in speed and distance its probably the very best thing you could do.
Good luck! My training starts next week too. 🙂

  2. HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!!!! I know running is scary…but trust yourself and go slow. You will be fine! 🙂

  3. I turn 25 in November and I am in a tizzy about it! So I am pushing 30 now? Oh boyyyy! It’s surreal and I refuse to believe it! Lol. Well enjoy your weekend away! You seem to travel customarily! You are one lucky duck! I haven’t left NJ yet this summer – but soon … ohhh soon. And btw, Bethenny – every time I see the scene where she yells at her assistant about her cake being perfect makes me laugh so hard – she is ruthless like me, I love it.

    • Ugh I know, after this we are officially in our late 20s!!! Haha I hate the town I currently live in so I try to travel as much as possible! I loved when she peed in a bucket in her weddign dress.

  4. Happy almost birthday.

What type of Flatiron do you use? It takes me like 45 minutes to straighten my hair. Ugh. I’m usually too lazy to do it.

  5. Yay!!! Hope you have a great birthday weekend!!

  6. Happy almost birthday!!!!!! Enjoy your birthday weekend!! 🙂

  9. Happy Birthday! And just think of yourself as making a grand entrance since you’re the last to show- fashionably late always rocks (or so I tell myself).

And when you figure out how to stop being scared, tell me please! Ever since the shin pain set in at some point last week, I’ve been really holding back on how far I’ve been running… 😦 I just get so nervous! Stupid injuries…

    • That’s true, they better all be anxiously anticipating my arrival! I’ll be sure to keep you clued in if I figure it out!

  10. Happy Almost Birthday, Old Lady 🙂

  11. I was the same way with pushing myself when I finally got running again. It will come, just let it happen naturally.

    Happy Early Birthday!! 🙂

  12. Happy Birthday!!!! I hope that you have a great time down the shore! We have to find a race around here sometime soon!!

  13. I totally got wrapped up in that marathon too! I kind of want to be her! (not really but would love to be funny like her.) happy birthday and let the curls roam FREEEEEEEEE!

  14. Frizzy hair and no vodka? The horror!! 😉 Seriously, I’d be freaking out about the straightener situation.. because I can RELATE. Mine broke in Ireland I was so desperate that I had to go out and buy a straightener while there. Yep, priorities.
I understand about the running too but you just have to trust your body, take is slow, and listen to it!
    Have a great birthday weekend!

  15. I hope your having an amazing day celebrating you!

  16. Happy Birthday girl!
