NYC Weekend Part II

Holler peeps, I’m back with part II of my weekend.  Did you miss part I?  You can read it here.

My Google Reader is Exploding

Ok, where did I leave off?  Oh right, the bf and I had just gone for a run in the beautiful weather.  After getting back to the apartment, we quickly grabbed a snack and our wallets and hopped on the subway to head uptown to the Asics store.  I was a little afraid that there would be a long wait for the foot ID, but there was only one other woman ahead of me and we only had to wait about 15 minutes.  Time to kill in a running store is very dangerous, luckily Alex was there to keep my spending urges under control.

Also, if there is an award for best blogger boyfriend of the year, I would like to nominate mine.  He took all the pictures of the Asics store for me, and the pictures of me being analyzed.

This is the first step.  They tell you take off your shoes and socks, and then you step into this crazy box thing where they do a scan of your entire foot, both left and right.

Then, you get these sweet shoes to run in on a treadmill while a camera films your feet.  There are sensors on them that allow the technician to determine your pronation, steps per minute, step frequency, and your foot landing pattern.

Here I go, getting ready to run!  The socks were weird, not really sure what they were about.  My guess is they use as basic a shoe and sock as possible so that nothing infringes on your natural stride.  After a brief jog, the technician gives you your results.  Apparently my foot is a little longer and narrower than average with a high instep.  She told me that I pretty much have a perfect foot (wooo go me!) but that I have a slight Overpronation problem.  She brought out a pair of 2150s, and said they would work better for me because they are a little more stabilizing.  I tried them on and took them for another whirl on the treadmill.

Watch me run!  Weeeee here I go!  The shoes were very cushiony, and I enjoyed them very much.  I decided to buy them, so now I’m not sure what I’m going to do with my 2140s.  Maybe just retire those for cross training days?  I’m really glad I had the opportunity to do this, it was interesting to find out so much about my feet.

The new kicks.  My personal favorite part about them is the color description.  “White Lightning”.  Yup, that’s me, haha.

Ugh, in the top right picture check out the awful angle that my right foot is hitting the treadmill at.  No wonder I have knee pain.

I would just like to point out that I am not yet 25.  Stop aging me before my time Asics!  Geez!  Since we were already so close, I persuaded to bf to head over to Nike Town and see if maybe they were having a sale.  They were!  Look at the kick ass shirt I got!

Yes, that’s right.  I am now officially a member of the US Olympic Team.  I could have stayed in there forever and spent millions of dollars, but I was good and only bought the one shirt.  Oh, and now onto explain how I ended up stranded in NYC on Sunday night.

Ok, so my sister drove me to the train station on Friday after work so naturally I had no keys.  I never bring my keys when I go to NY, why risk leaving something there that I would desperately need at home.  I got a text from my mom on Saturday afternoon saying that she needed to talk to me, I responded with why, and she never answered.  Therefor, I figured it wasn’t really anything important or she would have called right?  Right?  My point exactly.  Sunday morning my sister texts me asking when I am coming home because mom just left for the shore and she was going back to school.  Hmm, that’s interesting so I guess no one can pick me up from the train station later, cool.  No worries, I texted a friend who said he could pick me up, no problem.  Ah, but the no keys part, you all are remembering this right?  Well, I didn’t remember that until about an hour before my train was leaving.  At which point I sat straight up, looked at the bf, and said “Shit, I have no keys”.

I immediately called my mom and asked if anyone had a spare key to our house, nope, no one.  (Note to self, give someone a spare key ASAP).  We got off the phone and she said she would call me back, a few minutes later I got a text from her telling me I better figure something out because she can’t come home. Great, thanks mom, really appreciate all the help.  So with no way to get into my house, no car keys, no clothes acceptable to wear to work, I accepted the fact that I would be staying in NY for another night and missing work on Monday.  After a brief crying fit, don’t ask me why I think I was just pissed off, the bf and I decided to make the most of our extra night together and headed out to 16 Handles.  A self-serve frozen yogurt place.

You know I stood there and waited a good 10 minutes for the place to clear out enough to get this picture.  I was very excited to try this after reading about self-serve places so much on all the Orlando bloggers pages.  So may decisions!  I had no idea what flavors to choose.  I eventually went with a little bit of Cookies N Cream, NY Cheesecake, and Original Tart.

Mine is on the left with blackberry’s, strawberry’s, mango, blueberry’s, chocolate chips and M&Ms.  A weird combo for sure, but it was fantastic.  That’s the bf’s on the right.  He went with the Original Tart flavor and lots of chocolate and peanut buttery goodness.

This place might end up on my things to visit on every trip to NY list.  Another thing I got to do since I was stuck in NY was finally take a trip to Trader Joe’s!  We walked past it on Sunday and there was a line out the door waiting to get in, but I figured it would be significantly less crowded on a Monday morning and I was right.  Check out the loot!

  • Whole Wheat Flat bread
  • Asian style pasta for future lo-mein endeavors
  • Organic White Cheddar Mac and Cheese

  • Organic whole wheat penne pasta
  • Sweet Poppyseed Dressing
  • Unsalted Peanut Butter filled pretzels
  • Chunky salsa

Um, I think on my next visit I will have to bring a bag for the sole purpose of storing all the crap I buy.  There was so much more I wanted to buy, but I had to keep to things that didn’t require refrigeration or freezing.  Sad.  Riding the train home I felt like a pack mule.  For dinner last night I broke into my TJ’s goodies and used the Organic Mac and Cheese.  It was pretty good.  Really reminded me of regular Kraft Mac and Cheese, just not electric orange.  I also had some tuna and crackers on the side.

Phew, alright I think that is everything!  Sorry my posts were so long and late.  I will try very hard to not go a whole weekend without blogging.  I really need a lap top that is actually portable.  Happy Tuesday everyone!

  1. Here I was, super jealous of your weekend…up until the keys part. That’s horrible! But kind of funny, right? I’ve never heard of that 16 Handles place, but may have to make a special trip. I’ve yet to be blown away by fro-yo places, but I like the power of doling out my own servings.

    • Yeah, once I got over my initial pissed off feelings it was kind of funny. I totally recommend 16 Handles, the cookies and cream flavor was awesome.

  2. You had a crazy busy weekend! But it looked fun!

Wasn’t Trader Joe’s heavenly? 😉 I haven’t had their mac and cheese yet, but it’ll be something to try in the future…

And I think weekly trips to the ice cream shop should be mandatory for everyone. Just for mental health purposes, of course… most people don’t realize you can buy happiness- in the form of frozen yogurt goodness.

    • TJ’s was awesome! I was expecting it to be bigger than it actually was, but I loved it! I normally can’t eat ice cream because it upsets my stomach, but this fro yo didn’t at all and it was amazing.

  3. dude – that yogurt looks AWESOME. I think I feel a craving coming on…

also – yay for new shoes! Hope they work out for you. 🙂

  4. That is awesome that you got your running pattern analyzed!!! That is very cool!

And the fro-yo looked to die for…um…yes please! 🙂

    • It was really cool. My right foot is so much different than my left! Never would have known otherwise. I know, if I lived in NY i’d be going back today, and tomorrow, haha.

  5. Yum, nice haul. I totally need a good sneaker fitting! My feet are insane and I never get sneaks that fit properly.

  6. What a fun weekend! And what a good boyfriend. My husband likes taking pics for my blog. I think he feels famous or something when “his” pictures are on it haha!

  7. Sorry about the key thing. I get into those kinds of binds all the time. Super annoying, but at least you got some more time with the bf!

  8. I SO need to find a place like that for shoes. I have SUCH a hard time because my feet are horrible. I have high arches and they fall, I also have a weak ankle due to my overcompensating for the high arches, and its thrown my knee off a little too. GOOD TIMES!!

That frozen yogurt place looks SO awesome! Im pretty sure it would take me 20 minutes to decide what to get.

    • Well, if you are ever in NYC, I suggest you hit up the Asics store. It was so simple and easy, and fast! Also, any specialty running shop might be able to help you out. I’m so sick of my knees hurting, I feel your pain.

And the fro yo, it definitely took me a good 20 minutes to decide on flavors, and then I still picked three.

  9. whoa that is one high tech system they have for buying shoes! i could probs use some foot analysis though :). i llove froyo places like that where you get to pour for yourself, though i tend to go a little crazy!

    • Yeah, the bf said it reminded him of a Rocky movie. It was intense but interesting. And I definitely went crazy with toppings and flavors.

  10. I just found your blog and now I want frozen yogurt. Looking forward to reading.

  11. Oh my goodness- what craziness! There is nothing more frustrating than being locked out and stranded. It looks like you really made the most of it though- 16 Handles made my mouth water!! Amazing.

    • Yeah I think the frustration is what caused the tears, I did end up making the most of it though. I can’t wait to go back and get more fro yo.

  12. Heel striker? You look good when you run. I look like a pterodactyl.

TCL and I are hoping to take a trip to NYC in May. Glad you guys had a great time!

    • Haha, I probably only look good when I run for the first 2 min like in that picture. NY in May is gorgeous, I hope you guys get to go!

  13. […] go, yesterday wasn’t really all that bad.  For one, it was the first day of my work week (woopsiesnokeysgotlockedout), and two it was absolutely gorgeous outside.  Nothing made me happier than getting in my car and […]

  14. Very cool story about getting your stride analyzed. That would probably really benefit me doing that someday!
